Free XM Satellite Radio

I’ve got FreeMacWare in my RSS reader and the software they find is amazing. The other day they suggested AOL radio.

My first thought was why? But it had a cool icon (yes that’s a determining factor), and uninstall is a snap with AppZapper, so I gave it a try. Much to my amazement, it’s great!

AOL Radio

It’s a small simple Mac application. It comes with five preset buttons, like your car radio, so you can save your favorite stations. All are just about commercial free. One commercial here or there hardly fazes me compared to regular radio.

Not only does it have a lot of good choices, it also has XM Satellite Radio choices. That’s right. No fees, just free XM stations. Besides those, the other choices are good too. Today I was just listening to the 90′s Pop station. Full of all those wonderful 90′s hits. (yes that was kind of sarcastic)

There is definitely something for everyone. Two downsides though. First, you have to sign in with your AOL screename. So you’ll need one of them. Second, my Front Row remote won’t play/pause the music.

Ohh I almost forgot, another great feature is iTunes links! Since AOL radio tells you what’s playing (with a horribly small album cover image) and you can click on the artist, song title or album and it’ll give you iTunes Music Store links. Saaaweeet!

Much to my surprise, AOL Radio is a great application. Easy to use, nice interface, free and great stations!

Great find! Thanks for sharing. Now only if I could stream it to my home stereo like i do with iTunes… *le sigh*

There are ways to do that I’m pretty sure. You’d just need to find a new accessory.
