Yahoo & MSN in iChat

I’ve found two tutorials on how to add and buddies to your application. It works with iChat 3 found in Mac OS 10.4. Apple added to iChat which opens doors to adding in Yahoo and MSN abilities. Granted, it’s only chat. I don’t believe that any file transfers, mail notifications or anything like that work. Just plain and simple instant messaging. I haven’t tried it myself as I’m a big fan of , however I may give it a try some day just to see it work. There are two tutorials to check out. One at Cafe Macs Lounge which looks simpler and one at All Forces Blog which is more in depth with pictures and such. Both do the same thing, and probably do it the same way, it’s just that one has pictures and more details. ;)

Firefox Gifts: Pen, Coin & Mug

I’m a big fan of and yesterday I got a few Firefox related gifts. First, my boss gave got me a Firefox mug. It’s really sweet with the Firefox name on one side and the logo on the other. Then, when I got home last night, there was a package from the Foundation. Inside I found a Firefox pen, which lights up red, and a commemorative, 25 million downloads, Firefox coin. I got those two free for my work with SpreadFirefox.com. All I really did was spread the word about this great browser and help family and friends convert over to it. :)

Credit Card Fraud is so Easy

creditcardThey did an exposé on credit cards and those electronic signature pads last night on UPN 29 news. They determined that technology is making credit card fraud easier.

They took a few teenagers and sent them shopping with their parents and teaches credit cards; with permission of course. They shopped at places like Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Home Depot and other stores. Each person used a credit card that wasn’t theirs and signed with either their name or someone else’s. Some signed as Madonna or Michael Jordan, others just drew an X. They even drew pictures like houses and flowers on the signature pads. No one cared. Not one student was denied their purchase or even questioned about the signature. Why? Most stores don’t even look at the signature let alone have any contact with the credit card. Some did look at the signature, but still didn’t notice that this teenage girl wasn’t Michael Jordan.

The BMW of Chat Clients

iadium Just as I was about to check out the new iChat in Mac OS 10.4, Adium 0.80 came out. Adium is a multi-service, free, incredibly customizable, instant messaging application for Mac.

I didn’t think that this update would be as amazing as it is, however they continue to raise the standards of design and usability with Adium. Adium connects to all your instant messaging accounts (Yahoo! MSN AOL and more) within one application and provides tabbed windows for instant message conversations. You also have the ability to change the dock icon, message view formating and theme, contact list colors, sizes, themes, visibility and much much more. The chances of two Adium users having the same looking instant messenger client is not very possible.

Set Your Dashboard Widgets Free

If you have Mac OS 10.4 you have Dashboard and probably have one wish: Let the widgets be free! Well a new little application called Amnesty is out in beta form. It allows you to run a copy of your widgets separate from Dashboard on your desktop. I just installed it and it seems to be working well. Check it out and free your widgets.

More Ogres in Shrek 3

Is Dreamworks becoming like Disney; sequel happy?! I doubt it. The simple fact is that Shrek is popular and the momentum is still there. Hopefully it’ll sick as Shrek 3 isn’t due out until 2007. All the main characters will be back and voiced by the original people. That’s a key part. Who wants to hear Donkey by someone other than Eddie Murphy? There are also new characters like Artie, a teenage King Arthur, voiced by Justin Timberlake. Not sure the whole idea behind this one yet, but we’ve got a few years to wait for Shrek 3.

A Sunny Snowy May Day

Well, talk about odd weather. Yesterday was May Day and it was sunny. Then cloudy, then windy then snowy rainy sleety. Oh, then sunny again. It was like that all day. You’d look out the window and it’d look beautiful. Minutes later it’d be white with snow showers. Geez. Fun, but this cold weather is getting old. I’m ready for the 60s and 70s now. :)

Tiger’s First Days

Now that I’ve had a day or two to play with Tiger I think it’s a great upgrade. I ended up having to do a clean install, however that was probably a blessing in disguise. Especially since I didn’t loose anything major.

Overall the new OS is really nice. I’ve already seen tricks to keeping dashboard widgets on the screen at all times and other fun ideas. Mail is much prettier and I’m happy to see that Apple is moving away from drawers. Spotlight is nice also, but really haven’t had time to play with it to much. However I did find out that to get it to index my other partitions, I had to add them to the privacy list in Spotlight’s preferences, then quit system preferences, open them back up and remove it. Only then did Spotlight start indexing my other partitions.
