Multiple Virtual Desktops

Inspired by a post over at The Unofficial Apple Weblog I decided to check out a virtual desktop application called . And I’m glad I did.

Now it’s a little hard to explain, as I found out when trying to tell a friend, but I’ll try. You basically get to take your desktop and create more; virtually. I have four (see screenshot). Now, when I click on any one of those desktops, a cool little animation happens and I’m presented with a new desktop. All the applications open in the previous desktop hide and either I’m presented with a clean screen or with whatever windows and applications I had open in this virtual desktop before.

Konfabulator is Free!

Before Apple’s was a little program called Konfabulator. works on your desktop and can do anything Dashboard can do. The only problem as that Konfabulator wasn’t free. Now it is. Yahoo has bought Konfabulator and will be distributing it on Mac and PC for free!

Not sure Yahoo’s goal here, however it’s Yahoo now has a major COOL factor!

Target Aquatennial Fireworks

Target-Fireworks-2005 - 10

Last night was the 2005 Aquatennial Fireworks sponsored by . Once again the show was spectacular and didn’t disappoint. Supposedly it’s the 4th largest fireworks show in the nation.

You can see all my photos over at my Target Fireworks Flickr page.

Ivana Trump Las Vegas

Las Vegas Tower

Ivana is coming to Las Vegas. Ivana Trump, Donald’s ex-wife, is building the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi and plans to have it open in 2008. At 923 feet tall it may outshine the Stratosphere. By looking at the rendering above, it makes the Stratosphere look oftly small.

They’re changing daylight savings time?

It’s hard to believe but we may be changing daylight savings time. Granted, no one knows when it really is anyways, but still. The new plan would have it start in March and go though November. That’ll be a big change. I guess it has to do with some sort of energy thing. Don’t really know. I’ll just be really odd. That’s for sure.

Import Apple Mail to Thunderbird

Importing mail from Apple’s Mail.app isn’t built into to Thunderbird. That’s a major oversight I think, however the work-around isn’t that bad. There are a dozen steps or so, but really, it’s not hard.

This works for folders that are considered ‘On My Mac’ in Apple’s Mail.app aka ‘Local Folders’ or inboxes, outboxes, sent boxes whatever. Remember, that if you have IMAP mail, or your mail is all stored on a server somewhere, this is all not necessary. Set up Thunderbird and it’ll import all that stuff on the server. This tutorial imports email from local folders that are saved on your actual hard drive.

Web Developers Dream Firefox Extension

As Firefox gets more popular, more developers are creating extensions for it. And some, like , are just amazing.

Aardvark allows the user to glide over a web page and see where tables, images, paragraph tags and div tags are. It also tells you the elements type, class’ or IDs. This is great for web designers and developers who always troubleshoot designs. If something doesn’t look right, just use Aardvark to see what element is causing the issue.

It also allows you to remove elements, isolate them, erase them, colorize elements and more. Don’t worry, it’s all temporary, however it is quite useful and just fun to use and play with.

Logitech Mice Rock

It’s only been a few hours today with my MX 310 mouse and I’m loving every moment of it.

I picked it up on for like $3 and it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve never had any issues with Logitech products and I’d recommend them to anyone. It has six buttons, but only one extra special button. I call it the button.

Cool Inventions. But will they make it?

Talk about cool. I ran across a few products that I’d love to have, but I don’t even know if they are available; or affordable.

The first is an Optimus Keyboard where the keys are little displays. You then program what you want each key to do. So, say your in , you can have the keys light up with an icon that resembled what the keyboard shortcut is. It also has 10 extra keys that you can attach to applications. Once you tell it what application you want the key to launch, it displays the icon on the key. Looks very cool!
