Writely - Social/Web Word Processing

Writely LogoRecently I’ve been using a free service called Writely. Writely is a web based word processing application that is amazing.

Features include:

  • Full WYSIWYG Editing (in browsers that support it)
  • Import abilities for Microsoft Word (.doc), Rich Text (.rtf) OpenOffice (.odt, .sxw), HTML, Text (.txt)
  • Export abilities for all the above and PDF
  • Sharing abilities with anyone.
  • Social editing so that more than one can edit the same document.
  • Privacy controls.
  • Ability to ‘Star’ important documents. (like Gmail)
  • Beautiful Interface

iPox Gets Big Buttons & Shine

Now, shinner than ever is iPox v0.35!

New in this release is the return of the much missed big buttons and some makeovers. The tabs and main toolbar background have gone from the ‘two tone’ kinda shine, to the full glossy look. So sweet! :)

Oh, and for the third time, the main buttons got a makeover. This time they should feel more like indented buttons and hopefully help with a few usability issues I was hearing about. Feedback?

iPox v0.35 should be available on the Mozilla site later today.

iPox Feedback - Lets Talk

I’ve been getting a lot of feedback at my website and on the Mozilla site. So much that I keep hearing the same things over and over. So I thought I’d address a few.

  1. Large Icons
Yes, I see that removing them made some unhappy people. Don’t fear, they are coming back. When? Well I was hoping soon, but the code to make the big icons work screws up the little icons. I’m hoping in the next release though.
  2. Scrollbars - I’ll get to scrollbars eventually, but to many other things to fix first. Don’t look for them anytime soon.

Easy Wordpress Upgrade

It’s true, there is even an easier way to upgrade your Wordpress install.

Note: This has worked for me but I’m not promising anything. Always backup your data.

The worst part of upgrading Wordpress is that you have to first delete all your old files. Ok most of your old files. Then upload all the new ones. This causes your blog to be dead for however long it takes you to finish uploading. Plus, if you have any FTP issues, you’re stuck with a dead blog until you can get them all fixed.

Wordpress 2.0 - Installed

Here it is, in all it’s glory, Wordpress 2.0. :)

Granted, you probably can’t tell a difference, but that’s a good thing. The upgrade seemed to go just fine. Granted I haven’t check it on a PC in IE yet, but that’s a chance I’m willing to take.

My plug-ins are all working too except for Stattraq. I’ve been thinking of installing Mint anyways so maybe this will give me incentive.

On an unrelated to the upgrade note, my mySql server seems to be forgetting who it is or who I am today. So if you get an error about how Wordpress is not setup correctly, just come back later.

Wordpress 2 Coming

Part of me really wants to upgrade to Wordpress 2 while a part of me doesn’t. I’m afraid of screwing anything up but I really want some of the features!! So I’m going to go for it soon and just upgrade. If my blog has issues in the next couple days, you’ll know why. ;)

Textpattern Added to Chicklet Creator

I’ve added support for dynamic (?) code in the . Granted, it’s not as universal as the Wordpress code as you always have to add in a section name, but it still seems like it should work. If you have Textpattern installed, check out the code and let me know if it works or what should be updated.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Gold

We finally got to play RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Gold over the weekend and it’s as addicting as ever.

The main downfall in the game is that it’s a system hog. I couldn’t get the Mac version because my computer is no where near what is needed. My wife’s PC was closer and we found out that the only thing needed was a better video card. So we ran out and go one just so we could play.

The game takes forever to load, but once in you can do just about anything.

iPox Tweak

Yes, iPox is taking up quite a bit of my free time right now, but it’s fun to see it evolve.

I’ve uploaded a new version to Mozilla’s site based on some feedback. Version 0.31 is a small update with the secure URL background color switched from red to green based on some upcoming standards. I also updated the menus to be black text instead of blue. The blue just didn’t look good to me after a while.

Still plenty to do, but I very happy with version 0.3x. :)

iPox Update and Thanks

First, thank you to all who’ve made my Firefox theme iPox a huge success.

iPox is currently #6 on Mozilla’s most popular themes list and I’m very excited to have it there. Thanks to all who’ve given it a try. You’re feedback hasn’t gone unseen either. Today I’m releasing iPox 0.3 (available at Mozilla later today Now!) and it sports a bunch of updates.

  • Added a Windows alert box background.
  • Added extension / download background when you select a file.
  • Added Sage theme - Thanks to Jon Hicks for the icons.
  • Fixed/Added Custom Status Bar
