iPod Hi-Fi Unveiled!

At Apple’s special even today they updated the Mac Mini and unveiled the iPod Hi-Fi.

The iPod Hi-Fi is not a new iPod but rather a home stereo system. Basically it’s a big set of speakers. ;) No radio or CD player (that’s so 2000) just great sound (surround sound) in a simplistic design with a built in iPod dock and remote. However for $350 I think I’ll pass for now. Maybe there is a iPod Hi-Fi mini coming out. Ha ha.

Thunderbird Saves Everything - Compact It

I’ve been using Thunderbird for a while now and it wasn’t until recently that I learned something quite valuable. Thunderbird doesn’t permanently delete anything! :o

I turned on a setting the other day that caused me to loose a lot of email. I paniced, did some researching and found my mail. It was still there, just hidden. Modified a few files and it all came back. Phew.

Since then I’ve learned of the Compact feature in Thunderbird. You can turn it on so it runs automatically, but it’s off by default. What this does is it actually deletes deleted messages. Forever.

Proteus IM is now Free.

Proteus IMProteus instant messenger has has gone from a paid application to a free application.

Proteus can connect to almost any IM service such as Yahoo, Google and MSN. It’s a great idea and this was a cool program a few years ago. That was until I found Adium.

Adium does the same thing only it’s been free much longer and has more customizable features. Plus, Proteus doesn’t directly support GTalk yet.

Proteus is a great alternative though. It feels more complete in some aspects yet not as good in others. I’m glad it went free as I think that’ll help the program stay alive and get better.

Google Adult Pages?

I logged into my GooglePages account this morning to see if there were any stats. None that I could find. But I did find the option to mark my Google site as an adult site.

I find it interesting that Google allows people to create adult content with their GooglePages tool. I don’t quite understand why they would want to hassle with the legal issues and moral issues. Then again, if they add a little adsense, maybe Google would make big bucks.

Who knows, I just thought it was interesting.

iPox for Thunderbird?

One of my biggest requests is iPox for Thunderbird. Where it’s a great idea, I’m not working on it.

The time it takes to create a good theme is more that I have available. I like to think that I’ve done well with iPox so far, but there are still many issues to fix. With that in mind, starting a Thunderbird theme too just doesn’t seem like a good idea.

I do like the idea of an iPox Thunderbird theme as good Thunderbird themes are few and far between, but it just doesn’t seem doable at the time. Maybe in the future though.

Free Google Web Site

Google has now started offering free web sites. That’s right, with the Google Page Creator they have a WYSIWYG HTML editor, pre-defined designs and one nice, easy to use system.

I played with it for five minutes or so this morning and you can see my page: TwisterMc’s Googlie Home Page.

I even looked at the code and it looks pretty nice. It could use external CSS but that’s my opinion.
Good work Google!! :)

And now everyone can start speculating on how these pages will effect rankings and bla bla bla.

Additional Features for Tools

I updated both of my tools this morning.

For the Chicklet Creator, I added Blogger as an option for the ‘do it yourself’ code. I haven’t tested it, but I’m optimistic. I also removed pLog ‘do it yourself’ code as it was giving me issues so it went away for now.

Social Bookmark SmilieThe Social Bookmark Link Creator, on the other hand, got more updates and fixes today. I have added an options area that you can put in HTML code to format your output code. Want the links separated by
< br >’s? No problem. Want everything in a list? No problem. Just wanna put a - between each one? No problem. You format it how you want it. This is one feature that will be added to the Chicklet Creator in the future after I get any bugs worked out.

Server Cleanup

I just went through my web server and threw out a whole bunch of old files. None that should effect the workings of the website, but you never know.

If you find any issues, just let me know so I can fix them. :)

Thanks

Social Bookmark Link Creator

My Social Bookmark Link Creator is now in testing mode. Just select the links you’d like to add to your blog posts, create the code and copy it into your blogs template. Quick and Easy.

The Social Bookmark Link Creator is a spawn of the Chicklet Creator as they both use the same underlying code to generate the output. This time, I created it for social bookmarking as it’s getting more popular by the day.

Social bookmarking is the idea that you keep all your bookmarks in one online place. Much like Gmail or Yahoo Mail, your information is always accessible no matter where you are.

Goodbye Mr. Jeeves

Mr JeevesIt’s sad but true. Probably the thing some people like the most about Ask.com is Jeeves and he is retiring.

It’s a forced retirement I think, but still. He can go catch some sun on the beach or look into other career opportunities. He’s got some ideas of what he might do now, but isn’t exactly sure what he’ll do yet.

Goodbye Mr. Jeeves. You’ll be missed.
