As Seen In Mac Fan Magazine

If you pick up the latest edition of Mac Fan (Mac Fan 2006.3月号), a Japanese magazine, you’ll fine some of my work in the 2006 Online Software Encyclopedia.

The Online Software Encyclopedia is a separate insert that goes out with the magazine and it includes desktops, icons, themes and screen savers for your Mac. Included are my Mac themes and some of my Holiday Desktops.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been mentioned in a Japanese magazine as they are very nice to the average designer. The only qualification to get in are a few creative pieces of your own. Then, one day, they may contact you via email to use your work in their magazine.

MySpace Phenomenon

I was watching the local morning news and they were talking about how popular MySpace has become.  To me, I don’t really get it.

I have tried MySpace and I didn’t feel it was easy to use or that great.  But, then again, maybe I’m just use to the way other sites work as I’ve joined lots of web applications or online communities.  Or, maybe I need to just to use it more and fully understand it.

MySpace is around two years old and that blows my mind.  How can a site go from zero to huge in such a short time.  It really is a phenomenon and a huge success.

Willie Nelson - Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly

Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other) by Willie Nelson is making a HUGE shock in the music business. Why? Because it’s a gay cowboy song.

That’s right, inspired by the blockbuster movie Brokeback Mountain the first gay cowboy song is now available. Ok, so it was written years ago but Willie Nelson decided that now is the time to bring it to the world. And he has.

I doubt I’ll ever hear it on the radio, except maybe once or twice for shock value, but you have to hand it to Willie for taking the chance even though the feedback is probably going to be worse than he can imagine. Lets face it, Cowboys (or anyone) are ready to hear that they are all secretly gay.

Google, Simpy & Monitor This

Updates to the Chicklet Creator include a new Google button & code and a Simpy & Immedi.at chicklet.

The Google button no longer says ‘Reader’ as I updated the code that takes you to a page on Google that asks you if you want to add the feed to your Google Homepage or your Google Reader. Two choices for one item. Nice!

Also, Otis sent me a Simpy button to add. It’s the same as the link code that was already there, just in button mode now too.

Apple Special Event Invite

It’s all the buzz, those Apple Special Event Invites. Check out this one I found.

All In The Family - Apple Invite

Pretty swanky isn’t it!!

Ok, I’ll admit it, I created it in Fireworks this morning. Actually I created it for a contest over at TUAW.com. I may just win a cup! :D

Click on it for a bigger version that you can actually read.

My idea was to be generic of course, yet hint that it’s another iPod event. A growing iPod family? An upgrade? Wireless iPods? Who knows. Maybe the event has to do with AppleWorks, no one really knows.

BurgerTime - Intellivision Game

BurgerTimeWay back in the day there was a great game called BurgerTime for a video game system called Intellivision.

The idea was that you were a cook and had to make burgers. Basically, just run across the ingredients (bun, lettuce & patty) to make them fall down and create a burger.

But, be careful of the hot dogs, pickles and eggs as they will try and stop you! Good news is that you have pepper that you can throw at them to stun them.

Out of pepper? Don’t worry, you can collect ice cream cones, coffee, and the french fries to get more.

MovableType added to Chicklet Creator

I’ve been working on a few updates to the Chicklet Creator.

I started to add support for the pLog blogging software, but I seem to be stuck. I actually only got one variable of one button done. The code has been sent back to my pLog tester and hopefully he’ll say it works. But, for now, pLog support is in alpha mode.

MovableType support however is in beta mode! Basically I just need someone to test it and let me know that it works. I don’t have MovableType so I can’t test it. However, I’m optimistic it works fine.

Enhanced Fujita (EF) Tornado Scale

Starting this year, the NOAA National Weather Service is upgrading the old Fujita (F) tornado rating system to Enhanced Fujita (EF).

What’s this mean? I just means that they are taking more factors into how they rate a tornado.

There will still be the 1-5 ratings, but tornadoes may be rated higher or lower than in previous years due to the amount damage they produce.

It’s unclear if they’ll call tornadoes EF4’s or if they’ll stick the the common F4 saying. I’m hoping for the good old F4 as that’s easier for most to comprehend. And, when seconds count, you don’t want people wondering what a EF4 tornado is.

Interesting sites of the day.

Gollum Browser - Browse the Wikipedia in this web based browser. Come complete with keyword suggestions and a browser like interface. Kind of cool but is it really useful?

iPox 0.4 - Buttons!

iPox 0.4 is getting released today!

I have now themed all the default Firefox toolbar icons. I’m not 100% satisfied with them, but they work pretty good for now. I even added a mouse over state to each one. Rollover the back button, or any button, and it’ll highlight blue. I haven’t really checked much on a PC so that color may need to get modified. But it’s a start.

Also a big thanks goes out to Adam. Adam sent me an email saying that all I had to do was add a !important tag in my CSS and my glossy graphic would go behind the main navigation on windows. And sure enough it does!
