When Natalie insulted the President, she insulted her fans who favor the president, and when she insulted the war, she insults the troops that are sacrificing their lives for a cause she doesn't believe in, and again, military are often conservative-thinking people. I'm not saying this applies to all country fans and all military personnel, but it does to MANY of them. It is their choice to not apologize, to not "back down," but they should realize the change in the demographics of their listeners. First you had people who followed them because they loved their music, the harmony of their voices and the bluegrass tones of their music that made them famous. A lot of those people will likely never buy another CD from them because of what they said. I also think that the fanbase they lost in the aftermath of said incident has augmented its own importance in their minds. They can still make money. They're huge in England. They're big in Democrat parts of the States. But I did want to apologise. My anger was conserved anger from the extreme cases that make the headlines. They're the group the world sees. Then they think everybody who doesn't like the dixie chicks because they expressed an opinion is extreme. They're not. You're not. So I apologise. Bush is however the worst president this country has ever seen. Nixon included. He mixes a little bit of Nixon's corruption and foulplay with McCarthy's scare tactics, lies, more lies and beavis and butthead's stupidity. That is just my opinion, but it's based in fact. Isn’t the whole purpose of this war to bring equality and free speech to countries that aren’t allowed to voice their opinions? (I have to admit, I’m not too into the news about the war, maybe it’s cuz I’m Canadian. I’m not sure what the whole purpose is, but that’s the general idea i’m getting.) Isn’t free speech what makes America a great place to live? So why harsh on someone who’s simply voicing their opinion? Something that you’ve worked hard to have in previous wars.

Bottom line, she’s voicing her opinion, that she has every right to, as does every other American (and Canadian :)

I say good for her for speaking out!

I don't see it as a 'pitty me' song at all. I feel she's just stating her side of the story. I also don't see why it can't be on the radio . So many songs are worse these days and they play them all the time. Talking about doing drugs, sleeping around and even murder (goodbye earl & eminem songs) and no one cares. It is extremely sad that so many people go to so many extremes over a few words. No one has the right to teach their kids to hate someone or threaten murder on another person.
