iTunes Screensaver

I’m not sure how long ago Apple added an iTunes screensaver but I just got around to playing with it. It’s kind of fun. It loads up all your album artwork and displays it on the screen. Then albums flip and change into new ones. It’s like an iTunes ad for your personal music.

What would be really cool is if it were to be like the iTunes TV ad where the album covers build up a city and then scatter. How great would that be?

Y’know, I’ve thought the very same thing!

Looking at your screensaver pic there, we have a remarkably similar library, at least as fat as country goes (Sugarland, Shania, Jo Dee Messina, Rascal Flatts). We should complare notes!

Alex, it’s not in iTunes, but rather the screen saver settings in the System Preferences.

- Thomas

Wait for OSX 10.5 - I do believe there’s a rather slick CoreAnimation screensaver that does the ‘city’ effect with your iPhoto library.. wouldn’t be surprised if the iTunes Cover Art screensaver makes use of the same effect..

Gareth - Like the iTunes commercial on TV? That was cool!

iTunes cover art is located in the tracks as part of the meta data for the audio file. You shouldn’t have to be able to locate it.

is this only a mac feature, or is there anyway to get this on windows??!

- sean

Mac only as far as I know.

For some reason, the iTues screensaver is only displaying artwork from music I’ve purchased through iTunes. Music purchased from eMusic or burned from CDs is not being displayed in the screen saver, even though it’s displaying inside the iTunes app.

Anyone know why or how to fix this?

thanks!

- John

John - Does the songs in question have artwork in iTunes? Music I’ve added via a CD (not purchased) works as long as I set the cover art in iTunes.

- Thomas

yea, i’m having the same problem. I have a ton of album art, but only a few of the pix. are showing up on the screensaver!
anyone with an answer?

- Ray

Yes, Thomas — all the CD’s in question have artwork that display inside the iTunes player — they just don’t display in the screensaver.

- John

I wish I had an answer, but I don’t unfortunately.

For those of you who are too poor to own a mac (like me) here’s a windows version. I found it after seeing my colleague has the mac version on his G5.
