So Where is Prince’s Studio and House?
We’ve always known that Prince is from the Minneapolis area. More specifically Chanhassen. But where exactly?
This conversation was sparked by the Superbowl performance. After watching the half time show, the questions popped back into our heads. Since we live in the same general area, I want to know.
So I headed off to Google do do a few searches and found out.
To make this a bit more interesting, here is a bit of background on this. We moved out of the city to this area almost two years ago. We’ve been exploring the communities and know where pretty much everything is. However, there is one building we pass all the time that we didn’t know what was. It was white and I mentioned that it looked like it needed to be washed before. We also thought it kind of looked like a padded building for crazy people or what not. (not being serious) We never really knew what it was but it intrigued us. Guess what, it’s the world famous Paisley Park Studios that Prince built.
It’s a $10 million dollar building where many artists record albums, videos and much more. It’s one of the most historically important studios in the world and we never knew what it was so we made fun of the building.
I find it really amusing that I’ve stared at this building many many times in the past two years and never knew. Next time I drive by, I’m going to pay a bit more attention.
Looking up Prince’s house also turned out to be quite productive. It’s only a few miles away, if it still exists. Rumors are that it was torn down. I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but maybe sometime this summer we’ll go investigate.

I lived in Minneapolis for 11 years and we’re in the same boat. Thanks for the info. I think his house was that purple one on Lake Minnetonka, but I can’t be sure.

Find this yet? He lives at 7141 Galpin Lake Blvd, Chanhassen, MN, 55317. You can look this up on the Carver Co. website, property tax records, or their GIS. Besides this house on 20 acres, it looks like he owns two adjacent properties totaling about 160 acres, which border Lake Lucy and Lake Ann. Total for the three properties is about 180 acres, appraised at about 16 million. He moved there more than 20 years ago. The house is a neutral color (not purple!). There is a yellow windmill on the property. He used to have a very bright purple house on Lake Riley (also in Chanhassen) just East of 101. I think that he gave this to his dad. I don’t think that this is still purple.
