Switching to Safari? Maybe, Maybe Not
I’m a pretty big Firefox user and I do love the browser, but there are a few things I don’t like. Basically the time it takes to launch or open a new window. It just seems to get bogged down every now and then. Safari on the other hand just pops right up. So, I’m going to try and switch to Safari and see how it goes. So far, I’m not to sure.
Seeing as I just started my experiment, it’s way to soon to tell. However, my first task was getting my bookmarks converted over. There seems to be no free way to keep Firefox and Safari’s bookmarks synchronized, unless you go though something like del.icio.us. However, it’s not hard to export Firefox bookmarks and import them into Safari.
Then I needed extensions, err I mean plugins for Safari. I got a few good ones from PimpMySafari.com to block ads, cookies and one that just creates extra functionality. So I guess those are all working. Now I just have to train them.
One of the first sites I went to was Google Reader and that wasn’t to fun. It seems that Safari and Google reader work OK together, but it wasn’t as smooth as Firefox.
It’s going to take me at least a week if not more to decide if I really switch my everyday browser to Safari or if I go back to Firefox. I do like Safari, but maybe I should wait until Safari 3 comes out.
Which do you prefer and why? Or do you have another browser of choice? 
I like Firefox and Safari. But I think I like Firefox more, since Firefox has tabs, which are incredibly convenient.
Another thing that really upsets me about Safari is that if you were to right-click on a website, you can’t choose options like: ‘View image’ or ‘View background image’.

Nick. In Safari’s defense, it does have tabs. It has since 10.3.
Also, you can right click on an image and have it open in a new tab which is nice. No view background image functionality though.

You might want to try one of wrc’s optimized versions of Firefox.

I’ve tried Safari on Windows and I am not too crazy about it. It does load pretty quickly. I miss the functionality I have with Firefox. I use a lot of extensions and themes. I love themes. I hope you don’t stop making themes if you do switch to Safari. You make the most amazing themes. I love your Tinseltown theme. One of the best themes I have ever seen. Please don’t stop making them.

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5 - Windows Vista
My only complaints about Safari was that a lot of websites & tools I use just simply didn’t work for it.
I depend on Roboform to remember all my passwords & logins for MANY different sites and there is no way to use that with Safari. Another thing that bugged me is in Firefox you can press the wheel mouse to close tabs, This can’t be done in Safari.
As speedy and fast as Safari is I’m just going to have to stick with Firefox.

Less than a week and I ended back up in Firefox. I just couldn’t do without my extensions and themes. Firefox is a fine browser and I’ll wait until Safari 3 comes out to try again.
