I’ve been waiting and waiting for the Apple App Store. One of the items I really wanted was a checklist so I could keep track of things I needed at the store and tasks to be done, all without being connected to the internet. Now I have that in Todo.

Todo is a $10 application that specializes in creating task lists on your iPod Touch or iPhone. It’s pretty basic in use, but does allow for multiple task lists, priorities, due dates, notes and more. You can even customize the line that crosses out a completed item.

All of that is good, but one feature took it to the next level; synchronization. Todo will synchronize your tasks with Remember the Milk (pro account) or Toodledo (free). This is the money feature for me. I wanted to be able to put in tasks on a computer yet sync them to my iPod, and the other way around too. I didn’t want my data stuck online or just on my iPod.

With Todo for $10, and a free Toodleo account, I have exactly what I’ve been looking for!

As a plus, Toodleo comes with many additional features including Twitter integration, Firefox extension, Adobe Air application, Netvibes & iGoogle widgets, Google & iCal subscriptions and so much more.

Screenshots!

Excited to check it out, I found a few free applications and downloaded them. Nothing to exciting but the Remote application does let me control iTunes or Apple TV (if I had one) from my iPod.

I did see some nice checklist applications too, which I do want, but I’m waiting for one from Remember the Milk or some other system that can sync online.

It seems a bit empty right now, but exciting none the less!

Now, if I could only get the iPod Touch 2.0 software update so I can use the applications.

Check it out: http://twistermc.com/s

What’s cool about this is you can use it in a few different ways.

1 - Use it without Adobe Air.

2 - Load it in Firefox’s sidebar. Just visit the URL above, bookmark the page and be sure to check the ‘Load in Sidebar’ box. Now whenever you click on the bookmark, it’ll pop-open.

If you don’t see the ‘Load in Sidebar’ box, go to Bookmarks - Organize Bookmarks and edit the bookmark. In Firefox 3 you’ll need to hit the ‘More’ button, Firefox 2 I think it’s the ‘Properties’.

I could turn it into a full blown extension, but I’ll wait and see if people want that.

3 - Load on mobile devices. It seems to work great on my iPod Touch. Let me know if it works on your mobile device.

Also, SocialAddict 1.1 is available for Adobe Air users. Basically it replaces the BrightKite iPhone URL with the generic mobile URL as it didn’t work as nice as it should have.

Hope you enjoy it.

I’ve been an iPod Touch owner since Christmas and I’ve been very happy. However, there are still a few things that I just don’t quite get. Maybe someone can help explain.

Coverflow - It’s a really sweet feature, but the album art seems to only match the song that was playing when Coverflow as activated. It doesn’t seem to update when the song changes. Why not?

Google Search - Google has a great iPhone friendly versions of Google Search, yet Safari’s built in search doesn’t use it on my iPod. It sends you to the regular Google Search results instead, which are hard to read.

Background - Setting the background is great, however it’s not really the background now is it? It’d be nice to actually set the background behind my home screen and not just on the unlock screen. Granted, there may be a few readability issues, but I’d at least like to try.

Notes - In MacOSX, the notes application comes along with a to-do list. Not on the iPod Touch though. I’d LOVE a checklist application for shopping so I can just check things off as I get them. Super Target doesn’t have Wi-Fi so a web application isn’t going to work.

Sideways - Why can’t everything go sideways? Safari can do it, and so can music and YouTube, but not the calendar or emal or a few other applications. When I first got my iPod, I kept turning everything only to be disappointed. It’d be nice to at least have Mail.app work sideways as it’s much easier to type that way.

Shuffle - On my old iPod, I could set it to shuffle, then choose a playlist, and a song, and it’d start with that sone and shuffle everything else in the playlist; regardless of where I started. Now, I can hit shuffle and it’ll shuffle everything in the playlist, however, if I pick a song, it will only play from that song to the end of the playlist. No shuffling.

Help - There seems to be no help application on the iPod. Yes, the iPod Touch/iPhone is extremely easy to use, but things did get moved around. It took me weeks to figure out how to rate a song. And double clicking on the home button is a great trick, once you figure it out. What else am I missing?

Web Apps Site - Did you know that Apple has a great listing of web apps for the iPod Touch? Did you also know that it comes automatically bookmarked on your iPod? And that it’s not optimized for the iPod?! Wouldn’t it be smart to create an optimized version for those trying to find new apps and browsing directly from the iPod/iPhone?

I’ll admit, the items above are not earth shattering, they are just a few things that seem a bit odd to me. Maybe updates will come as the iPod OS continues to mature, or maybe I’ll just get use to them and forget them all. But, if you’re listening Apple, there are a few quick and easy fixes up there.

Have you heard about Idol Gives Back? More than likely you have. Have you donated? The money goes to help kids in our country and others have a better life. Helping them out with things like books, safe places to live & play and medication.

It’s easy to give back. You can donate online, by mail or by phone. Details on the American Idol website.

You can also just open iTunes, click on the Idol Gives Back banner and purchase some music. Songs from Snoop Dogg, Fergie, Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus, Heart and more are available. That’s a pretty simple way to donate.

You don’t have to give a lot either. If you just donate a $1, that’d definitely help. Even a little goes a long way.

Give a little love, give a little hope. :)

I know my remote isn’t hanging on it. Who knows where that is. However, Scott sent me a video of his iLEVL Copy Holder. It’s a simple metal paper holder that sticks to that magnet in your iMac.

That got me thinking, what would be even cooler? I work in a paperless office, so a paper holder isn’t exactly what I need. What about…

iPod/iPhone Cradle - With charging capabilities of course.

A cell phone holder.

Pencil holder. Kinda lame, but I always loose my pen.

Candy dispenser. Full of M&Ms for me please.

Atomic clock with weather capabilities.

A Timer

Cord Organizer

Light so that my iSight makes me look good when chatting or playing with PhotoBooth.

Mini keyboard with only Expose and Spaces buttons.

USB Hub

Flower holder. You know, for the girls. They were really popular in VW Bugs.

Microphone for those that do audio chat.

A bigger, multi level shelf for post-it’s and knickknacks.

A rear view mirror so people don’t sneak up on me.

A whiteboard so I can write down all my cool ideas.

Funny signs to warn people of my mood. Like “If it’s important, you’d have told me about it already.” or “I was having a good day, until I got to work.”

Some sort of cool color changing orb.

Trash can for my candy wrappers.

Disco ball. Who doesn’t want a disco ball?!

Memory stick dock.

Picture frame. For my cats of course. LOL!

A rolladex. These are coming back in style. I just know it.

A piggy bank. Or maybe a swear jar.

A cool glowing Apple.

What cool ideas did I forget?

I admit that paying $20 for a software update to my iPod Touch, less than a month after I got it, is kind of depressing, but I went for it and it’s like I have an all new iPod!

New features include:

Email client. Fully functional email that’s amazing.

Weather app. I love the weather, so this is like candy to me.

Notes. I’ve been using address book for taking notes, not so much anymore. I wish I could do check boxes though too.

Stocks - Not my cup of tea, but I got it.

Google Maps - Not only do they look great, but I can get three types of maps (line, satellite, hybrid), traffic conditions, directions and I can search for business on the map. It’ll tell me where all Targets are for example. It even has the ability to figure out where I am based on my internet connection. Doesn’t work at home, but I’m going to try it everywhere.

Web clips. Creating a quick shortcut to Gmail on my iPod Touches home screen is simple as pie. It’s a great way to add even more ‘virtual’ applications.

Multiple home screens. Just like the weather, I can flip through home screen after home screen.

Customizable home screens. Press, hold and it all starts to wiggle. Then I can move icons around all I want. I’ve already done this a few times.

Here is my short iPod Touch Wiggle movie.*

I do have to say that I’m very impressed with the $20 upgrade. In my mind, it’s better than coming out with new features that are only available on new iPods. Lets just hope that Apple continues to let iPod Touch owners get more software updates like this in the future.

*If anyone has tips on getting better image/video captures from iSight, let me know.

However, with the Mobileadmin plugin, it makes easier to do and it works remarkably well.

It’s a must have for any blogger on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

This year for Christmas, my wife got me an iPod Touch! This little device is extremely cool and I’m completely addicted.

I now have an iPod that plays videos and Handbrake will become my new friend. It also has a calendar built in with two way syncing with iCal. Cool!

And lets not forget Safari. I sit at home on it and surf the net. I’ve already spend hours looking up iPod Touch (or iPhone) web apps. I just wish there was a way to download them and use them offline. I guess I’ll have to wait until February when Apple should start letting developers build offline apps for the iPod Touch.

I’ve also been looking for work arounds. I wanted a text application and found a great tip where I can create an address book entry and use that. So I now have A List in my address book and it just contains one notes field where I put my shopping list or whatever else I need.

I also tried jumping on other people/companies wireless networks. As my wife drove through town, I asked her to slow down when the iPod started picking up an open wireless network. I do have to say that many more people password protect their networks than I thought. I guess that’s a good thing though.

Christmas was very good to me this year and I’m extremely happy with all gifts. I hope yours was too.

With Apple’s new announcement of iPod touch, I’m ready to buy! (Wife, ignore that.)

iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the phone. Perfect for me as I don’t want to go with ATT. It has a multi touch interface, Wi-Fi and iTunes Store on the iPod! I think I’m in love.

Even better yet, with the Wi-Fi you basically have a PDA. Just go over to Netvibes use that to create notes, checklists and so much more. I don’t see eMail integration, but as long as you can get to the web, you can check webmail. Right?!?!

The only downside is the size of the hard drives inside; 8gb or 16gb. Ohh well, first generations are always a little smaller capacity with a larger price tag.

The new video iPod nanos and updated iPod classic is cool too, just not Wi-Fi enabled.

So I went out to MacUpdate to find another. That’s when I came across YamiPod.

YamiPod is a free application for Mac, Windows and Linux that will manage the music on your iPod. I downloaded it, exported all my songs to a DVD and am burning a backup disk as we speak. This is a great example of a free application that just works.

YamiPod has a few other features too besides being able to backup your iPod. Like removing duplicates, finding lost tracks, lyrics, notes and back up playlists.

It’s a great application and one I suggest everyone check out. Plus, you should backup your iPod at least once a month as you never know when it’ll just freak out on you.

I was reading over at TechCrunch that Google personalized homepages were re-launching as iGoogle. When I logged into my account, sure enough, there it was; iGoogle.

iGoogle Hosted on Zooomr

Now, most things that start with an i followed by a product name remind me of Apple. I think it was that iMac that started it all and of course the iPod, iTunes and wealth of other i stuff. Is Google keen on Apple? Well probably not.

The old personalized homepages were known as ig - http://www.google.com/ig - so they just expanded upon that and spelled it out; iGoogle.

To me, the name change is cool. I like it and think it helps separate Google from the personalized area a bit more. Having recently started to ramp up my personal homepage use, the iGoogle name is a welcome addition.

Rock on iGoogle!

The announcement today of the Apple iPhone is amazing. The little device that can do phone, music, videos, tv and so much more blows me away. All this with no buttons, just a touch screen. It’s basically like a Mac Nano. It’s almost perfect. The main, and killer, downside is that it’s Cingular only. I’m not switching to them anytime soon and I really wish they could have partnered with Verison or a few cell companies.

The iTV was announced too. Coming in Feburary it wirelessly transmists music, movies, tv shows and more to your TV. I like this product and will consider getting one. At $299 it’s a bit pricy, but lets wait and see all the official details. Jam packed with all that HD stuff though, it’s probably a steal.

The Keynote is still going on and no speak of 10.5 yet. I’m sure it’s coming though.

Check out Apple.com for all the details.

Today is the bi-annual Apple Expo day where Steve Jobs gets up on stage and announces what’s been happening at Apple and where they are headed.

One year ago, Apple announced the Intel processor, iLife 06 with iWeb and lots of RSS and Podcast integration, the official FM transmitter for the iPod and minor updates to iWork. In September’s show, Mr. Jobs told us about iPod games, the movie store in iTunes, new Nanos and previewed iTV.

This year, as always, there is lots of speculation. Some say an Apple branded cell phone while others are hinting at an Apple TV. Both of these I’m un-concerned with unless they are more than just a cell phone or TV. What I’m excited to hear about is more details on iTV and MacOSX 10.5. Both of which should be shipping in 2007.

I’m just excited to listen in and hear what Apple has to announce. If you’d like to get up to the minute information, check out UneasySilences’ list of keynote coverage’s. Thanks to The Second Press for posting that.

My wife also got a cool iPod accessory, but I’m waiting for her to post about that.

I’m in need of a bit of iPod help. I have posted my issue at MacOSX.com and Apple’s site with no answers.

I have a 20 gig iPod that does photos and music. It works great, however if I try to set it on the dock, and then use the line out in the back of the dock to my speakers, it’ll only play for about 90 seconds (or so) and then it’ll go silent. The iPod will still be playing, but the speakers won’t omit any sound.

Now I can live without my docks line out, but I got a Bose SoundDock for Christmas and it does the same thing.

I got my wife a Nano for her birthday and that seems to have no issues so it must be my iPod.

I’ve restored my iPod (complete erase) and it didn’t help. I also ran disk utility to see what that’d find and it found nothing. Any ideas? I’ll take it to the Apple store if necessary, but I’m afraid they’ll charge me to fix whatever this issue is.

Other than this one issue, I have no other iPod issues and I’m perfectly happy with it.

Ideas?

Introducing the iPod Nano Completely Remastered desktop pictures.
I really like Apple’s new ad, however I was unable to find any good desktop pictures to go along with the ad. So I took the time to create six desktops based off Apple’s new iPod Nano ad.
Desktops ~ 1MB Each:
Pink, Blue, Green Dark
Pink, Blue, Green Light

Introducing the iPod Nano Completely Remastered desktop pictures.

I really like Apple’s new ad, however I was unable to find any good desktop pictures to go along with the ad. So I took the time to create six desktops based off Apple’s new iPod Nano ad.

Desktops ~ 1MB Each:
Pink, Blue, Green Dark
Pink, Blue, Green Light
Blue
Green One
Green Two
Pink
All Zipped Up - 4.5MB

All desktops are 1590 x 900 which I realize is kind of an odd size. I wanted them to fit my iMac’s 17″ monior, yet I didn’t want to crop out any of the graphics. I didn’t make them bigger as I already had to stretch the orgionial graphics. Much more and I’m afraid the quality would be even less.

I hope you enjoy them.
