Actually, you don’t have to be adventurous.  I have tested the themes on Mac and XP and saw no show stopping bugs.  Yes, there are quite a few outstanding areas that need theming, but I thought that the progress so far would be enough for some users who are patiently waiting; which I appreciate.

Bugs?  Issues?  Problems?  Yep, they are there too.  Don’t forget to let me know in the bug tracker so I can keep track of them and we can all discuss together.

I’ve recently got a few comments from a visitor saying “hurry up and release the f**king theme” and “do your f**king job.”

Now I know that there is bound to be one jerk out of hundreds of users, but it’s comments like these that make me wonder why I continue to spend my time on themes.  It’s not my job and, the more negative comments I get, the slower my progress will be.  These things take hours to build and there is a lot to take into consideration.

On the other hand I’ve gotten a lot of comments recently about people who are so passionate about Miint that they’d switch back to Firefox 2 until it was ready for Firefox 3.  These kind of comments drive me.  They are not yelling at me but encouraging me to spend more time theming.  And the good news is, Miint for Firefox 3 has come along way in just two and a half hours.

What I’m trying to point out here is that when you don’t pay for something, you should not demand updates and start swearing at developers.  We do this because we want to, because we love to, not because we have to.

Give a little respect to those that create free addons, themes and free software in general.

With the Firefox 3 release upon us, a lot of people will be wondering about the status of my themes.

So what is the status?

Currently, I have started work on iPox.  It’s looking pretty nice and it has advanced a bit from the current Firefox 2 version.  However, it’s a complete re-write.  I started from scratch and have a lot of editing to do.

To help me prioritize the order of other theme updates, please vote for which theme you’d like to see updated sooner rather than later. I do have a vague idea for the order that I’m going to work on them, but the votes could sway my decision.

Notes: iPox is not in the poll as it’s going to be completed first.  You may also vote for up to two.

I don’t have a release date on iPox yet and the other themes are a ways off.  Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found an easy way to transfer a theme from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3.

I do plan on continuing to theme and getting everyone converted over.  It’s just a matter of time.

• I’m now running Firefox 3 betas thanks to MultiFireFox.
• MidnightFox was updated the other day with incorrect buttons.  Oops.  That has been re-uploaded and should be made public soon.
• yExplore and GA? have been updated for Firefox 3. Actually, for the beats not the official release.  That’ll happen when the final release comes out.
• Now that I am running Firefox 3, I can start theming it.
• Just started to watch Entourage.  It seems like a pretty cool show.
• Watching the second season of Monk too which is an awesome TV show.
• I’m totally lost on Lost but I love it.
• I’m going to be speaking on SEO and web design next week at the Art Institutes MN.  That’ll be fun since I use to go to school there and I’m not big on public speaking.
• I just bought Delicious Library.  It’s such a great program to keep track of music, movies and games.
• I’m now using MoodBlast to update my Facebook, Twitter, Pownce and Jaiku status’.  I’d love to see this as a web based app much like TwitterFeed so it can automatically post my blog posts too.

That’s what I got at the moment.

MidnightFox has always been a great theme. It’s dark, yet usable and, as stated by others, one of the best dark themes out there. However, I wanted more.

While fixing a few toolbar issue with MidnightFox, I started updating other pieces. I reworked the tabs, the bookmarks, some menus and the the navigation buttons. Taking extero’s icons and leveraging Pixelmator’s menu design, I created much nicer toolbar with icons that ‘pop’ when you roll over them.

MidnightFoxy was first set to replace MidnightFox, however some of the testers were partial to the old buttons. So MidnigthFoxy was born. It’s basically the same theme, only with a more polished toolbar.

There are certainly areas for improvement, but aren’t there always? I’m going to focus my theme updates on Firefox 3 and we’ll circle back with MidnightFoxy when it’s slated for the browser upgrade.

But, for now, it’s available for Firefox 2 and for everyone to enjoy!

I’ve since been made aware of the issue and included a link to download the theme and extension file directly. Once downloaded, just open your addon’s window in Firefox, drag and drop them in and they should install.

Sorry about the confusion and thanks to those who brought it to my attention.

One of the biggest updates were all new toolbar buttons. I used the same icons I have in extero and I took some direction from Pixelmator for that’s the graphic design program I was using. I also tweaked the tabs and a few other areas to create a darker more polished version of MidnightFox.

Before I shock all the current users by releasing an update, I’d love to get your feedback. Do you feel it’s a worthy update to MidnightFox? Or do you feel that this should be a spin off theme all together and leave MidnightFox’s buttons alone?

To install, right click this link and save the file to your desktop. Then open Firefox’ addons window and drag and drop the mf66a.jar file onto the addons window.  It should then install.

Not only do I have an all new theme to offer but just about everyone will get some sort of an update. Some long overdue, some just minor things.

I’ve been working on a brand new theme for a few weeks now if not longer. It’s not completed, but it’s in a good spot. So a release should be coming up sometime in March.

I also have a few pieces of news regarding iPox. Not only is there a new version, but I have an idea to make most everyone happy. Keep checking back for those announcements.

HalloFF should make a return in March as well. It’s my Halloween theme with Jack Skelingtion and it seems to have a fan base that lasts all year long.

That’s right, March will be full of Firefox themes with at least three theme releases, one of which is brand spanking new. How exciting is that?

As noted earlier, all themes should now be Linux compatible.

MidnightFox also got the status bar code updated so hopefully that ugly grey one is gone.

iPox got the most updates with a new throbber and a few theme fixes throughout.

For the most part, just little tweaks, nothing major.

All updates are available via Mozilla’s Add-On site.

Basically, just fill in a few fields, hit submit and I’ll be notified via email. It’s that easy. It’s even got a developer comments area where I can respond to any issues.

HalloFF is a little bit of iPox, a little bit of MidnightFox, a little bit of Hallo and some Nightmare Before Christmas characters all thrown together, mixed up and ouput into a new theme. It hasn’t gone though a lot of testing or quaility checking, but since Halloween is so close, that’s hard to do.

Check HalloFF out and let me now what you think.

To Install:

1. Download HalloFF
2. Open Firefox’s theme’s window and drag HalloFF.jar into the themes window.
3. Right click on the theme in Firefox’s theme window and select ‘use theme’.
4. Restart Firefox.

Note: I have no auto update feature built in so you’ll have to check every now and then to see if there is a new version.

Update: 10/7 - Minor edits but realized it hate’s Sage and I don’t know why.

My Firefox addons were built to work in today’s official build. Not the 1.0.x builds from months ago or the new beta/alpha builds of the upcoming browser. The reason for this is that I have the current official build and not the old or new ones. Without the other versions of the browsers, I can’t test my themes or extension. However, you can.

All you have to do is ask me to send you a version that will install in your older or newer version of Firefox. Same goes if you want to try the extension in Flock or SeaMonkey. Just ask and I’ll do my best to get you an installable version for your browser. Then, if it works fine, let me know and I’ll release it for everyone.

Now the with Wordpress plugins, I do have Wordpress 2.0.x and 1.5.x to test them in. It’s much easier to have multiple versions of Wordpress running than Firefox.

Currently, the Chicklet Creator plugin works in 2.0.x only. I have heard requests for 1.5.x so I’m working on that. The Social Bookmark plugin works in 1.5.x and 2.0.x.

What it all comes down to is just ASK if you have version issues. I see a lot that my themes and extensions don’t work in 1.0.x or the alpha Bon Echo version of Firefox, but no one takes the time to ask me about it.

Keep in mind this is a dark, yet usable, theme. It’s not for those don’t like black. It’s also not finished. This is only the first public release. However, it’s got quite a lot done as I’ve learned a lot from iPox.

PS: It’s dark, so I’m sure there are a lot of extension text issues or something. I tried fixing them all but they keep coming back.

MidnightFox is based on iPox and has some similarities. However, I’m working on theming everything to bring a nice, dark experience to Firefox. Don’t worry though, it’s not too dark. There is color in the buttons and were it seems necessary.

I’m hoping to put out the first release of MidnightFox later this week, but that’s only if all goes well.
