Miint has been released on Mozilla’s add-on site and is now public!

That makes two out of nine themes that are ready to go for Firefox 3.  One other is in production and the others waiting to get converted.

Miint fans rejoice though, the cool and tasty theme is read to go!

Yes, there are still things to do, like remove any unused files, and I’m sure some bugs will arise, but I’m very happy with Miint’s outcome so far.

The Miint beta is over, the theme has been released.

Next steps is to take some of the code and work it into MidnightFox and iPox to make them better.

I’ve recently got a few comments from a visitor saying “hurry up and release the f**king theme” and “do your f**king job.”

Now I know that there is bound to be one jerk out of hundreds of users, but it’s comments like these that make me wonder why I continue to spend my time on themes.  It’s not my job and, the more negative comments I get, the slower my progress will be.  These things take hours to build and there is a lot to take into consideration.

On the other hand I’ve gotten a lot of comments recently about people who are so passionate about Miint that they’d switch back to Firefox 2 until it was ready for Firefox 3.  These kind of comments drive me.  They are not yelling at me but encouraging me to spend more time theming.  And the good news is, Miint for Firefox 3 has come along way in just two and a half hours.

What I’m trying to point out here is that when you don’t pay for something, you should not demand updates and start swearing at developers.  We do this because we want to, because we love to, not because we have to.

Give a little respect to those that create free addons, themes and free software in general.

Miint was created with two things in mind, the first of which was the color green. Green is a color that I like a lot and one that I hadn’t worked into a theme yet. I also liked the look of Mint stats and OrderedList so I used them for inspiration and colors when creating Miint.

Size was the other factor. I have this crazy idea that the size of the elements in a Firefox theme can effect the browser speed. Not when loading a page, but when launching the browser, creating new windows or possibly when opening the preferences box. So I avoided using images where I could and tried just CSS. I compressed files and threw out those that were unnecessary. Will it make a difference? Not sure, but it can’t hurt.
