Pickin’ Apple and A-maze-ing Corn

We enjoyed a few fall festivities over the weekend. We went to Deardorff Orchards, an apple orchard just down the road from us and picked our own apples. It was a beautiful day and just being outside enjoying the fall day was great. We also got some great apples and went for a wagon ride.

After that we went to Severs Corn maze and walked though corn. It’s not quite as exciting as we were hoping but it was fun non the less. For those that don’t know, it’s a corn field that they turn into a giant maze and you work your way though. Unlike most corn fields, this field is planted in two different directions to help confuse people. They do give you a map though.

Senator Dayton Wants to Sue the Weather Service

Mark DaytonSenator Mark Dayton of Minnesota wants to sue the National Weather Service in Chanhassen Minnesota because they didn’t issue a tornado warning soon enough. The tornado ripped though the town of Rodgers and one person died. However, I can’t quite see how that’s the National Weather Service’s fault. Last time I checked, the weather is still unpredictable.

He claims that about five minutes before the storm there were signs. There was a small hook echo, however nothing that was well defined. If we sound the sirens at every nasty looking storm, we’ll need to spend a lot of time in the basement.

Softball Sized Hail

I’ve never seen softball sized hail but it slammed down on Northfiled Minnesota today. Lucky for us, we don’t live there, but it’s not that far away. Windows were smashed, cars dented, holes punched in just about everything and plants destroyed. To make it worse, about 12 hours later, the area was hit by sever storms again and this time with tornados too.

If you can’t wait that long, you can get a guaranteed audition by visiting the Brookdale center on August 5th and 12th. There whey will be doing auditions and awarding passes that will make sure American Idol hears you.

I’m not sure what kind of zoo all the crazed wanna-be’s will make, but I’m sure it will be fun!

I’ll see you all on TV!

Some Like it HOT

Some like it hot, the rest of us think this is a little to warm.

Heat Wave

Last nigh as we were driving back from a friends house, it was 86 degrees. The time? Midnight!

With temperatures reaching 100 for the next few days, it’s amazing to hear on the weather that a cool down is coming. You know it’s bad when they call 87 a cool down.

On top of that we’ve had very little rain in the past month or two. So lawns are getting pretty fried as these types of temperatures are not that un-common this month.

Congrats Kari Rabe

Kari Rabe from my hometown of Chatfield Minnesota was on Wheel of Fortune last night and did excellent. I think she went home with about $50,000!!!

I know (knew) Kari as I was friends with her brother Luke in high school and I’ve hung out with the whole family. That was a long time ago though. ;)

Congratulations Kari!

How to Build a Deck in 5 Steps

Step 1: Get some talented people who know how to build a deck. My brother and cousin helped us. Then make sure you pick a day that’s way to hot. Our deck took two days and it was sunny and 95 to 100 degrees each day.

Step 2: Get a lot of wood. This is only half of our new deck. We had to go back for a second load.

Get Lots of Wood

Step 3: Tear off the old deck. This is pretty easy except they left a lot of nails in the yard. Lawnmower will find them though. ;)

From a Foot of Snow to Sporadic 80s

A few weeks ago I was talking about lots and lots of snow. Now, it’s 86 hot degrees out!

Twice in the past two weeks forecasters have said it was going to be in the low to mid 70 and it was actually in the low to mid 80s!! We were excited to get 70s but 80s! WOW

Today was forecasted to be 75 and it’s 86 out right now! This is Minnesota people and it’s only April! Does this say anything about our spring or summer? Will it be a summer of extreme heat? It seems that we jumped from Winter to Summer. Wow, I don’t even know where my sandals are!

Goodbye Kirby Puckett

Groundhog Day - What’s the Point?

Today is Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. That means that there is six more weeks of winter. But what’s the point?

Actually, what I’d like to know is what happened to winter? Here in Minnesota we just ended the warmest January ever and we had more days in the 40s than we did in the single digits. Snow? Well there isn’t much of that either. We get an inch or two every few weeks, but not enough to keep the ground covered for long.
