Lycos Mail Mini-Review

lycos-ssHosted on Zooomr

Well Lycos is the newest contender in the competition to win over your email business. So, jumping on the bandwagon, I gave Lycos Mail ago. Overall, it’s nice, but lacking.

The interface looks really nice. It has a good color scheme and an up-to-date graphics. However, the graphical ads kill it. It tarnishes the nice look and feel horribly. However, if you block ads, I guess you could get past that. You could also pay for email and then the ads would be removed too.

Web 2.0 Applications List

The Second Press made a quick post yesterday about IT|Redux’s updated Web 2.0 database of applications. After checking it out, I have to say this is one of the finest lists I’ve seen.

It’s a fantastic list organized by type of application and lists some features & reviews of each. I highly recommend checking it out as there is an web based application to meet almost all needs.

From calculators to file managers, text editing, spreadsheets, photo editing and even video editing all on the web! Plus much more. Most offer free accounts and are well worth the checkout.

Yahoo Answers Rocks!

Yahoo Answers

I wasn’t to interested when I read about Yahoo Answers launching, but after trying it, I’m very impressed.

Not only is Yahoo Answers easy to use, it also gives very good answers and the turn around is anywhere from a few minutes to a day. I’ve asked two questions, one on cats and one on Windows, and both had excellent outcomes. Each question was answered and my questions were solved.

Nasty Fish : Zooomr Signup

I heard that Zooomr was giving out free pro accounts for signing up and blogging an image so I thought I’d join up. Still not sure how it all works, but I’m waiting for my free upgrade. ;)

For my first image, I looked back though some old photos and found a picture of a nasty fish that was served up at my sister-in-laws wedding. It’s salmon and doesn’t it make you want to …um… dig in?

Wufoo Custom Form Maker is Fun

It’s not always about having the most unique new service. Sometimes, re-thinking the most boring tasks can be quite successful. For example, check out Wufoo.

It’s purpose is to help you build web forms and collect data. It doesn’t sound very exciting but it’s well done and quite slick. I’d even say it’s fun.

You just select what form fields you want, what order you want them in, set required states and you are ready to go. Wufoo creates all the code and handles everything for you.

ZoHo - Online Office Applications

There has been lots of talk online about Writely, iRows and Google Spreadsheet lately that I though I’d take a moment and talk about the Zoho offerings. ZoHo is a company that makes an online word processor , spreadsheet application, polls, to-do lists, chat and more. Most applications are free and are all very good; and not invite only.

ZoHoWriter is basically the same as Writely. It’s a free online word processor that import & export Microsoft Word documents along with many other types of text files, export PDFs and it’s all web based. They deal with documents a little better though with a left hand menu that includes all your documents. All accessible from one screen and they can even open in tabs. Pretty sweet.

Google Browser Sync - Firefox to Flock

Seeing that Flock has now entered public beta, and I think it kind of rocks, I wanted to try and sync Firefox and Flock so I could go back and forth. Well it kind of worked.

First I had to edit he Google Browser Sync extension so it would install in Flock. No problems there. Then it did all the work for me and synced everything except bookmarks. Cookies, history and saved passwords all came across with no problems. However, no bookmarks.

Now, if I could only figure out how to get my Firefox bookmarks in Flock. Then I’d be all set.

Social Bookmarks Tool Goes Static

If you wanted to use the Social Bookmark Tool but didn’t have a blog, now you can. I added the functionality to add a static URL and create social bookmark links.

Granted, this static code will only work with one URL and title, it’s not dynamic like the blog code that will create links based on what page you are on. However, it still works great if you have one special page that you think should have some social bookmark options.

I’ve also make a quick fix to the Social Bookmark Links Wordpress Plugin as it seems that FeedMarker wasn’t coded right if you choose the drop down menu. It’s all good now though.

Wordpress Plugins Error

If you are using either Wordpress plugin that I’ve created, you might want to update. There is a small error, actually a typo. Oops. The ‘after all’ feature didn’t work. So if you were to want to put something after all the buttons or bookmarks it wouldn’t show. But it’s been updated now.

Also, if you are using Safari or Firefox, check out the subscribe icon in the upper right.  Like it?  Does it work well?  Feedback welcome.  If you are on IE or anything else, I have no idea if it works or even looks good. ;)
