Flock Blogging Rocks

Flock LogoI just found a sweet Feature of Flock. If you are posting to your blog via your blog’s admin or Flocks blog software, you can use Flocks built in Flickr browser, find a picture you want, and drag it to your post. Flock will write all the code for you without ever having to go to Flickr or leave your post window.

Plus, with the Flock photo bar, you can upload photos from your desktop, tag and organize them too. You never have to leave Flock or that blog post that you are in the middle of.

Chicklet Creator Plugin Testers Wanted

Great news, after a long coding spree last night, I came up with a major overhaul of the Chicklet Creator Wordpress plug. Now, I need some more testers. :)

The new plugin version includes:

  • Updated PHP code for our template so it won’t throw errors when you disable the plugin. Actually this is available for the current version too.
  • And admin panel to configure the Chicklet Creator. That’s right, no editing the plugin file! Everything takes place in Wordpress’ admin area.
  • Database integration. All plugin choices are now saved to the database. Configure it once, and you’ll be set!

Updated Chicklet & Social Blog Tools

Announcing updates to the Chicklet Creator and the Social Bookmark Creator.

The updated blog tools include a new layout, more buttons and a few added features. One of the big additions is the drop down menus. You can now create a CSS drop down menu to hold all your feed buttons, or you can create a social bookmark pop-up menu just like the one above.

New Ajax Wordpress Plugins Installed

I’ve installed two new plugins that are Ajax based.

Ajax Comments
Great plugin that takes the refresh out of adding a comment to the site. It simply accepts the comment and adds it to the list without ever changing screens.

Ajax LiveSearch
This replaces my default search box with a live search box. Start typing and it’ll automatically show you results. I think it has IE issues, but works great in most browsers.

I also had to get rid of Spam Karma and go for Akismet as Spam Karma and Ajax Comments didn’t play well together. Either way, I should have excellent spam protection.

New Wordpress Plugin Instructions

Last night I decided that my Wordpress plugins needed a bit more detailed install and configure instructions.  Sure, I know how to do it but that doesn’t mean anyone else gets it. :)

Check out the Chicklet Creator Wordpress Plugin instructions and the Social Bookmark Wordpress Plugin instructions.  Let me know if something doesn’t make sense or if I missed anything.

Just trying to make it easier to use.

Social Bookmarks Tool Goes Static

If you wanted to use the Social Bookmark Tool but didn’t have a blog, now you can. I added the functionality to add a static URL and create social bookmark links.

Granted, this static code will only work with one URL and title, it’s not dynamic like the blog code that will create links based on what page you are on. However, it still works great if you have one special page that you think should have some social bookmark options.

I’ve also make a quick fix to the Social Bookmark Links Wordpress Plugin as it seems that FeedMarker wasn’t coded right if you choose the drop down menu. It’s all good now though.

Tagging 101 : From Folders to Tags

You know what a folder is but what is a tag?

For those that are just jumping into the blog world, or the Web 2.0 world for that matter, there is a new idea out there called tagging. Much like folders or categories, it’s a way of keeping things organized.

Lets start out simple with folders.

On your computer you have folders. Maybe a documents folder for paperwork, pictures folder for pictures and so on. You’ve probably even created your own folders. “Christmas 2005″ or “Work Documents” The idea is to keep your files organized on your hard drive. Simple enough.

Wordpress Feed Stats

There is an amazing feature available for hosted Wordpress.com blogs called Feed Stats. It tells you how many people have viewed your feed and what feed readers were used. The bad part? It’s only for Wordpress.com blogs.

See a great review of Feed Stats.

I’m hoping that the feed stats feature makes it into all Wordpress blogs. The only other option seems to be Feedburner. Personally, I like having my feed URL be part of my site and I don’t want to pay for any additional features.

Social Bookmark Wordpress Plugin Updated

I’ve added a new display option to the Social Bookmark Wordpress plugin. Now you can get your social bookmarks in a list, just like before, or you can get them in a drop down menu.

The new drop down feature lets you add all the social bookmark options without taking up much space.

Output Options:
Link List:

Drop Down Menu: (only available via the Wordpress Plugin at this time)

Download the Social Bookmark Wordpress Plugin v0.2

Works in Wordpress 2.x and should work in 1.5.

If you’d like to see the drop down functionality added for the web based tool, just let me know.

Added Fuctionality to the Chicklet Creator

I just update the Chicklet Creator to add the ability to define what code appears before all buttons, before each button, after each and after all. This will help format the code to fit your needs right way and you don’t have to worry about it later.

You can easily create your feed buttons in a list or remove any type of separation between each button.

This functionally is already part of the Chicklet Creator Wordpress plugin.

Check it out and let me know if any issues come up.
