iPox Officially Released for Firefox 3

If you haven’t been following the betas, than this day has been a long time coming.  iPox for Firefox 3 was officially released on Mozilla’s Addon site this morning.

The new version, iPox 2, has been re-worked from the ground up in hopes of creating the most compatible theme for Firefox 3.

If you come across a bug, please post it in the bug tracker and I’ll take a look into it.  There are more updates to come, but this is a good start.

Enjoy!

My First Apple App Store Purchases

My first app store purchases.

I was excited to see iTunes 7.7 this morning and then TUAW tipped us off as to how to get into the App Store.

Excited to check it out, I found a few free applications and downloaded them. Nothing to exciting but the Remote application does let me control iTunes or Apple TV (if I had one) from my iPod.

I did see some nice checklist applications too, which I do want, but I’m waiting for one from Remember the Milk or some other system that can sync online.

It seems a bit empty right now, but exciting none the less!

8 Things That Baffle Me About My iPod Touch

I’ve been an iPod Touch owner since Christmas and I’ve been very happy.  However, there are still a few things that I just don’t quite get.  Maybe someone can help explain.

  1. Coverflow - It’s a really sweet feature, but the album art seems to only match the song that was playing when Coverflow as activated.  It doesn’t seem to update when the song changes.  Why not?
  2. Google Search - Google has a great iPhone friendly versions of Google Search, yet Safari’s built in search doesn’t use it on my iPod.  It sends you to the regular Google Search results instead, which are hard to read.

Fastest Mac Browser Test: Firefox 2, 3 and Safari

Have you checked out Dromaeo.com?  It’s a Mozilla owned site that runs a set of JavaScripts and test out how fast your browser is.  I tried it on my iMac, 1.83 Intel Core Duo with 1.5 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and found Firefox 3 beta 5 to be the fastest browser.  Oddly enough, Firefox 2 was the slowest, even behind SeaMonkey!

Granted, this is no professional test.  Firefox 2 has the  most extensions on my computer and that could cause slowness.  There are always a lot of factors to take into consideration, but this is what my tests show.

Are You Using That Magnet on the iMac?

Metal Apple LogoSo what do you use that magnet on the side of your iMac for? I know my remote isn’t hanging on it. Who knows where that is. However, Scott sent me a video of his iLEVL Copy Holder. It’s a simple metal paper holder that sticks to that magnet in your iMac.

That got me thinking, what would be even cooler? I work in a paperless office, so a paper holder isn’t exactly what I need. What about…

  • iPod/iPhone Cradle - With charging capabilities of course.
  • A cell phone holder.
  • Pencil holder. Kinda lame, but I always loose my pen.

Entourage 2008 - Quite A Ride

Entourage Meeting NotificationsWe’ll I’ve been on Entourage 2008 for about three weeks now and the ride has had its ups and downs. I’m happy with Entourage for the most part, but it’s flaws are hard to ignore.

Things I love:

  • Projects - Projects are cool in the fact that I can group emails together, file them away, yet have easy access to them. I need to dig into this more and use it.
  • Full Calendar Support - No more Outlook meeting request issues or confusion. This was a big factor in changing to Entourage at work.

Goodbye Thunderbird, Hello Entourage 2008

Thunderbird to Entourage - FlickrI’ve been a big fan of Thunderbird for a while now, but I’m moving on. Entourage 2008 is calling my name at work and I’m listening. I’m a bit sad to say goodbye to Thunderbird, but yet excited at the same time. So why the switch?

iPod Touch $20 Upgrade Rocks

I admit that paying $20 for a software update to my iPod Touch, less than a month after I got it, is kind of depressing, but I went for it and it’s like I have an all new iPod!

New features include:

  1. Email client. Fully functional email that’s amazing.
  2. Weather app. I love the weather, so this is like candy to me.
  3. Notes. I’ve been using address book for taking notes, not so much anymore. I wish I could do check boxes though too.
  4. Stocks - Not my cup of tea, but I got it.

Create a simple, feature rich, Facebook Dashboard widget in 4 steps.

Are you constantly checking or updating your Facebook profile? Do you like to be up to date on all your friends? Are you having difficulty finding a nice Facebook Dashboard widget? Stop looking and create one now!

Facebook Dashboard Widget

It’s really simple. All you need is Safari 3 and a Mac. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Go to iphone.facebook.com in Safari 3.
  2. Make your browser window as small as you can horizontally and as short as you’d like vertically. Make adjustments based on your personal likes.

You know you need a new computer when…

… when they keys start falling off your calculator application!

Calculator

Now I know this is strange. I opened up Dashboard the other day and there was a missing key on the calculator widget. Where could it have gone? It can’t just pop off. Can it?

Maybe Steve will announce Calculator 2 at MacWorld tomorrow. No buttons, just answers. ;)
