Mac Like Firefox Themes

Firefox MaclikeIf you’ve ever wanted a good Firefox theme to match the look of your Mac a bit more, there are lots of developers out there trying to make this happen.

The best one, if you are actually on a Mac, is probably GrApple by Aronnax. His attention to detail is amazing. Other good choices are Pinstripe (again Mac only), iSafari and iAqua, my own creation.

However, there are many many more choices out there. Mozilla Taiwan has a forum thread going with screen shots and download links for many other alternatives. Some look pretty good and some are, oddly enough, not very Mac friendly.

Chocoflop - A Simple & Free Image Editor

I’m always looking for cool applications and ways to make my life easier. I’m a big fan of Fireworks, but launching the application every time I want to make a quick image edit seems to be too much work sometimes. That’s why I found Chocoflop.

ChocoflopChocoflop is a free image editor for the Mac. It loads quickly, has all the basic bitmap editing tools and doesn’t seem to take up many system resources.

Use iPhone Applications in Firefox’s Sidebar

With the release of the iPhone, many software companies are releasing iPhone versions of their applications. Even though you might not have an iPhone, there is still a chance that you can use them with Firefox’s sidebar.

iPhone Firefox Sidebar

Firefox’s sidebar is and odd place to load a web page, however if you manage your bookmarks, there will be an option to load any bookmark in your sidebar. The good news is that some iPhone applications can load and work in Firefox’s sidebar!

Does Webkit have a bug or are Mac programmers missing a step?

Webkit LogoApple’s Webkit is being built into all sort of Mac applications, however they all seem to share data and I don’t feel they should.

As an example, if you log into your Google account in Safari, Shiira is also logged in. And it doesn’t stop there. GCal, CSSEdit and Journler all use webkit too so you are automatically logged into your Google account.

This isn’t just a Google thing either. Works with Yahoo mail, Wordpress blogs and any site that has a checkbox for “remember me.”

iPod touch Should Be iPod PDA!

With Apple’s new announcement of iPod touch, I’m ready to buy! (Wife, ignore that.)

iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the phone. Perfect for me as I don’t want to go with ATT. It has a multi touch interface, Wi-Fi and iTunes Store on the iPod! I think I’m in love.

Even better yet, with the Wi-Fi you basically have a PDA. Just go over to Netvibes use that to create notes, checklists and so much more. I don’t see eMail integration, but as long as you can get to the web, you can check webmail. Right?!?!

GotMail - Email Growl Notification Style

I decided the other day that I wanted a new, cool Growl notification style for when I receive new email in Thunderbird. Instead of creating a Thunderbird specific one, I decided to create a generic one for email.

GotMail Growl StyleGotMail is the Growl notification style that I came up with. It’s simple in nature, but does have a bit of added flair at the bottom as a plain black box didn’t suit my needs.

The background of GotMail comes from BittBox.com and the email icon comes from Jonas Rask Design. Thanks to those that make graphics and give them away for free.

What happened to SpyMac?

SpyMac LogoI can remember a few years ago when SpyMac was all the rage. It was a very up-and-coming Mac community that tried to do everything and with style. Now it seems like a social media crash site.

I guess classic SpyMac is a better representation of what it use to be. It was a huge Mac community with pretty good web hosting options, free email with tons of space and a decent forum community. It seemed to have a lot of drive, dedicated people and a large user base.

One Week With My Microsoft 5000 Mouse

When my Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling down, I was sad. When I broke it trying to clean it, I was depressed. But now I have a Microsoft Wireless 5000 Laser mouse and I’m pretty happy once again.

I’ve never been a Microsoft Fan. I refuse to install Word or Excel on my iMac and, come to think of it, the I don’t have anything Microsoft installed. That was until I installed the Microsoft Mouse driver.

Microsoft 5000 Wireless Laser MouseThe Microsoft 5000 mouse is wireless, has five configurable buttons and a very nice scroll wheel that goes vertical and horizontal. For only $2, this thing rocks! That’s right, $2 on eBay.

Made on a Mac Wordpress Plugin

Made on a MacThis is quite possibly the greatest plugin ever!* You can now get the Made on a Mac Wordpress plugin that will automatically insert a button to your blog that states your blog was made on a Mac. How cool is that?!

The initial release is extremely basic. Just install it and enable it. That’s all. It hooks into Worpress via the wp_meta function and will place the button after that information. Usually that’s in the sidebar where it says Meta. If you don’t have that function in your theme, which isn’t completely out of the ordinary, you can manually add some code in. Just see the install page.

Goodbye Mighty Mouse

Dead Apple Mighty MouseI had complained that my Apple Mighty Mouse could no longer scroll down and now it’s dead.

I had taken it to the Apple store in hopes they’d help. Instead they sent me to YouTube to watch a video on how to clean the Mighty Mouse. Well, I tried to open the mouse and ended up killing it instead. :(

The good news is I just got a new mouse on Ebay for $2 and I hope it’ll be nice.

It’s a Microsoft wireless laster 5000 mouse. Everyone says how good Microsoft mice are, so now I just have to wait for mine to arrive.
