Top 5 Reasons Why I Dropped Entourage 2008

Entourage TrashedI gave Entourage 2008 a go for a few weeks, but have since switched back to Thunderbird. It was really a lot of little things that just kept adding up.

Here are the top 5 reasons why I dropped Entourage 2008.

  1. No Hyperlink Support - You can’t link a few words in emails. This was one that really gets me. I’m always linking phrases to tutorials or additional resources so that people know what I’m talking about.
    • Official Microsoft MVP Support Answer: This function is not available.

Entourage 2008 - Quite A Ride

Entourage Meeting NotificationsWe’ll I’ve been on Entourage 2008 for about three weeks now and the ride has had its ups and downs. I’m happy with Entourage for the most part, but it’s flaws are hard to ignore.

Things I love:

  • Projects - Projects are cool in the fact that I can group emails together, file them away, yet have easy access to them. I need to dig into this more and use it.
  • Full Calendar Support - No more Outlook meeting request issues or confusion. This was a big factor in changing to Entourage at work.

Syncing Google Calendar with Entourage 2008

Since I’ve made the switch from Thunderbird to Entourage 2008, one of my missing features is the ability to sync with Google calendar.

I tried using Plaxo, but they sync to your main Google calendar and not any others. This may work well if you only have one Google calendar to sync with, but that wasn’t my case.

I thought about some of the tools like Spanning Sync and gSync but Spanning says it doesn’t work right with Entourage and gSync doesn’t say anything. You’d think that since Entourage syncs with iCal, that it wouldn’t be that hard.

Goodbye Thunderbird, Hello Entourage 2008

Thunderbird to Entourage - FlickrI’ve been a big fan of Thunderbird for a while now, but I’m moving on. Entourage 2008 is calling my name at work and I’m listening. I’m a bit sad to say goodbye to Thunderbird, but yet excited at the same time. So why the switch?

One Week With My Microsoft 5000 Mouse

When my Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling down, I was sad. When I broke it trying to clean it, I was depressed. But now I have a Microsoft Wireless 5000 Laser mouse and I’m pretty happy once again.

I’ve never been a Microsoft Fan. I refuse to install Word or Excel on my iMac and, come to think of it, the I don’t have anything Microsoft installed. That was until I installed the Microsoft Mouse driver.

Microsoft 5000 Wireless Laser MouseThe Microsoft 5000 mouse is wireless, has five configurable buttons and a very nice scroll wheel that goes vertical and horizontal. For only $2, this thing rocks! That’s right, $2 on eBay.

Goodbye Mighty Mouse

Dead Apple Mighty MouseI had complained that my Apple Mighty Mouse could no longer scroll down and now it’s dead.

I had taken it to the Apple store in hopes they’d help. Instead they sent me to YouTube to watch a video on how to clean the Mighty Mouse. Well, I tried to open the mouse and ended up killing it instead. :(

The good news is I just got a new mouse on Ebay for $2 and I hope it’ll be nice.

It’s a Microsoft wireless laster 5000 mouse. Everyone says how good Microsoft mice are, so now I just have to wait for mine to arrive.

Help Save A Startup - Zooomr

Zooomr LogoOne of my favorite startup companies is in need of help. Zooomr is a great photo sharing site much like Flickr or Photobucket. However, during a recent upgrade, they ran into major issues. Now they are in dire need of new database machines to get everything back online.

One can donate via the Zooomr homepage. Any amount is accepted. If you work for, or know someone at, a large company maybe you could see this as an opportunity to fund the startup or donate some hardware. :)

From Around The Web : Flock, Seamonkey, Outlook, Idol

I’ve never quite understood why people just leave a list of links to other sites, but now I do. Here is some news that I don’t have time to write about, but wanted to share.

A new preview version of Flock, based on Firefox 2, is out with many additional features. Note, it didn’t import all my previous bookmarks.

Seamonkey 1.1 is also out. It’s also based off Firefox 2 and Thunderbird 2 too. However, from the comments on Seamonkey 1.1, the real good stuff won’t appear until 1.5.

Great, Hard To Find, Firefox Themes

Firefox themes are great and I’m always on the lookout for more. But sometimes, finding the coolest ones takes a bit of work.

addons.mozilla.org is the first stop for finding any themes. However, this official listing doesn’t include everyone. Some theme developers don’t take the time to upload theirs for some reason. The second place I always look is DeviantART.

DeviantART Firefox themes are usually quite nice, but mainly designed for PCs. That hasn’t stopped me from trying them and lately I’ve been finding a few cool ones.

Mac User Installs XP

I’ve just finished installing Windows XP Home (Service Pack 2) and it was quite the process. I’m so happy to be a Mac user. :)

It started off just trying to figure out how to boot off the CD. Mac OS install CDs say right on them, to startup off the CD hold down the C key. However, with Windows, all they said was go to the START menu and go from there. The problem? The PC couldn’t get to the OS, which was why I was re-installing it.
