If it wasn’t bad enough to have it once, now we had it twice. We aren’t exactly sure it went away in the first place.

I think the problem could be that we’ve had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin in the past so we get put on something else. Either that something else wasn’t good enough, or the ear infections were just extra stubborn.

Lily’s past her few sleepless nights and has been on new meds for a few days and seems to be getting better.

We’re hoping that this time everything clears up and we can go about enjoying being a happy, healthy little girl.
<hr

She’d go down for short periods of time, but then she’d be backup and crying.

We then tried to let her sleep with us, but that wasn’t working well either. She’s sleep for maybe 30 minutes, then be up just bawling. 9pm turned into 11, 11 into 1am and things kept going the same.

Finally around what was probably 2am, our 30 minute stints turned into an hour and we all got a few hours of sleep. However not nearly enough.

We got her into the doctor first thing in the morning only to find out she had a double ear infection. That’s right, double.

Now she’s on medication and it’s been a long day for everyone. Lily looked exhausted all day but continued having sleeping issues. It just hurts too much.

We’re crossing our fingers that she does better tonight. The medication should be helping and we also gave her infant Tynol. All should help keep the pain down so we can all sleep.
<hr

When is the last time you cleaned it?

If you’re anything like us, it’s probably not been cleaned in a long time. And that’s not good.

Lily’s humidifier was a year old and I don’t think we ever cleaned it. We only use it in the winter and never thought twice about it. Turns out, it was supposed to be cleaned weekly. Weekly!

We ended up turning it off until we could get her a new one. Just turning it off seemed to make her sleep better. I could have been coincidence, but then again, you never know. It could have been blowing bad stuff into the air too.

If you have a humidifier, then I’d say check the instructions to see how often it should be cleaned. Then clean it or turn it off.

<hr

Lily is pretty happy otherwise so we’re not freaking out just yet.

Tomorrow she has her 18 month checkup so she’ll be into the doctor’s office anyway.

The only thing we can think of is Roseola.

Roseola is an acute disease of infants and young children in which a high fever and skin rash occur. The child may have a runny nose, sore throat, and eye redness. A fever usually occurs before the rash appears. It lasts for 3 (sometimes up to 7) days.

We think this because she had a high fever on Thursday that was out of the blue and went away on Friday. That combined with her recent pinkeye & bronchitis seem like a logical match.

We’ll know for sure tomorrow.

The big thing that made me feel better was watching her play and act pretty normal today. <img

She had to take both eye drops and liquid meds and she did pretty well.

With the eye drops the trick was to turn her head to the left try to put them in the corner of her left eye, right by the tear duct. Once in, turn her head to the right and they’d slide right in. Then do the same for the other side.

This works really well except when your kid doesn’t want to be sitting there. Then it’s best to bribe them.

I’d give Lily the bottle of eye drops and she’d play with it for a few minutes. Then I’d take off the cap and give it to her while I put the drops in her eyes. It made it easier, but still not easy. However every little bit helps.

With the liquid medicine that had to be taken orally, she actually didn’t mind the taste, but she never remembered that. It was a struggle to get the first drop in, but after that, she was happy to eat the rest.

Again, bribing works well. Lily could have a few yogurt drops or some juice if she’d take the medication.

Also, Target has great syringes and bottle system that works really slick. I don’t know what other pharmacies do, but Target makes it easy to dispense, measure and give the meds.

No one said that giving medication to a little one would be easy, and it usually isn’t. But its learning a few tricks here and there that can make it easier on everyone.
<hr

It’s always something and on Saturday, Lily’s eye looked a little pink and her cough didn’t sound good, so I took her into the doctor. Turns out she had the start of pink eye and possibly bronchitis.

The good news here is that it was just the start and we caught it early enough. She’s now on two different meds to battle each one.

We were thinking she might have pink eye because her eyes had been really goopy for the past few days. So much so that they were almost stuck shut in the mornings. They were a little pink, but nothing major.

The bronchitis we weren’t sure about, but her cough seemed to be getting deeper and it sounded like she was trying to cough something up. She also sounded a bit wheezy.

Overall, Lily is still a happy girl. She’s not letting the pink eye or bronchitis get to her. She’s also doing really well with the meds.

Hopefully in a week everything will be all cleared up and we’ll be all better!
<hr

Especially when it’s not cool to put your fingers in there?

With Lily having a runny and crusty nose, she has a tendency to try to either wipe away some of the snot away with her hand, or pick off the crusty parts. She doesn’t yet understand that her fingers are not to go up the nose.

But it’s a really good question. Why are they the same size if they don’t go together?
<hr

I expect a big cruddy mess this morning too.

I sometimes wish I could just give her something so she could sleep so she could get better. Like toddler NyQuil; which doesn’t exist.

Now I know I can’t give her NyQuil and we are going to call the nurse line today to see if there is anything to be worried about.

The biggest thing is that it just won’t go away. Seems like it’s been around for more than a few weeks.

I’d just like my healthy little girl back please.
<hr

She woke up crying and screaming. We went in and she was shaking, extremely upset and was having troubles talking and breathing. We comforted her and she calmed down, but wouldn’t allow us to sit down or lay her back down.

It took some coaxing, but we finally got her to sleep with us and in the morning we took her into the doctor as she now had a fever too.

Turns out, she was fine. No ear infections or anything bad like that.

She does have a virus though and it’s causing a lot of mucus build up. When she’s tired, it has a tendency to get worse. So when she tries to sleep, she feels like she can’t breath and then she cries.

During the day, she’s usually fine. Except for a pretty nasty sounding cough that makes it sound like she’s been smoking for 80 years.

At night, and early in the morning, however is a different story. She sounds horrible, is unhappy and doesn’t sleep as well.

On Sunday night, she hardly slept at all. She was up most of the night and didn’t settle down until 2am.

There isn’t much we can do for Lily either. We just have to let it run its course.

We are using Baby Vicks and making sure her humidifier is on in her room. We also propped her mattress up so that she wasn’t laying flat. That should help the mucus flow down and not collect in her throat.

We’re also keeping her out of daycare so that she doesn’t give this to the other kids.

Christi and I are battling to stop it from infecting us as well. So far, we are loosing but the fight is far from over.

I know that the colds and germs are everywhere, but I’m ready to have a healthy family again. I’m not a fan of going though this every few weeks.
<hr

It only lasted 12 hours or so and she dealt with it really good, however, the next day, I got sick.

The day after that, Christi got sick. If we would have had any other family members, they’d have gotten sick too.

That begs the question, will we always get sick when our little girl does?

I’m not ready for being sick once a year, or more. I like my once every few years thing that I’ve been lucky to have.

What’s your take? Do you get sick every time your kids do?
<hr

My wife darted out of bed before I knew what was going on and she came back with a baby covered in vomit. Lovely.

We then proceeded to clean her up and I had the task of replacing her crib sheet. Which I went right in to do until I smelled the vomit and nearly vomited myself. OMG! I then covered my nose with my shirt and changed it as fast as I could.

Ohh look, vegetables.

Lily then slept with us as she was to shook to go back into her crib. It was her first time vomiting and I’m sure it wasn’t any fun for her.

Not long after we all laid down and started to go back to sleep, she vomited again.

After some discussion, we decided that I should take Lily downstairs and sleep with her so Christi could get her sleep as she was going to work in the morning. I then got the sick day.

Once downstairs, Lily ran and played and was having a great time. Seeing as it was like 1:30am, I laid her down next to me and we proceeded to fall asleep. Then she vomited.

This proceeded a few more times, however the time in-between the vomit got a bit longer. So we did get some sleep. Just not a whole lot.

Also, if you’re looking for the bright side, the first incident was on a full stomach. By the fourth and fifth, it was more of the dry heaves. Less mess!

Since we got up this morning, Lily has been having a great day. No really. She’s been running and playing and hanging out with Dad. She’s eating and drinking and has no other issues.

We’re hoping that whatever it was is now out of her system. If not, we will at least know how to deal with the situation a little bit more the second time around.

Ohh, if you’re ever chaining a diaper and think it smells horrible, just wait till your kid vomits. Then you’ll be wishing for a nasty diaper.

Nothing is worse than vomit!
<hr

However, that streak may be coming to an end.

Recently she’s been having diarrhea and many dirty diapers. Yesterday I changed three in the hour she was up in the morning. Usually I change 1 and that’s just the one wet one from overnight.

Then at daycare she had about 5 more. They are diarrhea like and gross and it’s concerning us.

She still eats well, sleeps good, and is pretty happy. She’s a bit more crabby than usual, but not a whole lot.

We think it may be teething, but aren’t sure. Can teething cause something like this?

It’s our first time worrying about her really being sick and we’re concerned. If she’s still having issues tomorrow, we may run to the doctor to be safe. Especially since we are to go on a long car trip this weekend.

For now we’re just monitoring her and making sure she gets plenty of fluids as dehydration is a big concern that we’re hearing from family and the internet.

I’m sure she’ll be fine, but I don’t like my little girl being sick. Nor do I like chaining multiple dirty diapers, and an outfit, all before 8am.
<hr

First Christi got something, and then passed it to me. We were worried about passing it to Lily, but there isn’t much a parent can do; is there?

Yes, we washed our hands often and took precautions where we could, but it’s not like you can avoid the baby. She still needs that one to one attention and we can’t leave her alone.

Lucky for us, Lily didn’t get sick. That could be because she may have given it to us first, but still. What’s a parent to do when they get sick and don’t want to pass it on down?
<hr
