Within 5 minutes Lily picked up a bag of chips and dumped them all over. Then we had to pick them all up; well most of them up. And of course eat some along the way.

Then she grabbed a bag of kettle corn and turned it upside down. It didn’t all fall out, so she shook the bag and swung it around until it was empty.

In the process of picking up the popcorn, Grandma S threw some at me. Lily saw that and decided to join in. Then everyone was throwing popcorn. It may not be a good lesson, but it sure was fun!

I can’t tell if Lily is an artist or just really good at making messes. This is what she did with her mashed potatoes the other night during dinner. And it’s not like it took a few seconds, she spent quite a bit of time making it look good.

Dads Pudding Finger Painting

Have you ever wanted to do finger painting with your little one but was to worried about them eating the paint? Well try pudding instead.

We use vanilla pudding and add in some food coloring. Now we can finger paint without having to worry.

Granted Lily doesn’t like getting her hands dirty so it hasn’t gone really well. Next time we’ll just put it directly on the table as she doesn’t seem to have a problem with getting the table dirty.

Lily Helping

We’re doing some Christmas baking today and Lily is helping out.

That’s actually powdered sugar in the photo, not flower. And more than a little made it into her mouth; among all the other places that it ended up!

I was discussing food with a co-worker and he said he had a friend that bought anything that said ‘new’ or ‘improved’ on the package. If it’s new or improved, it’s got to be better right? He called the guy a new food freak. I then said that my wife and I do the same thing which lead to me being called a new food freak. So I guess I am and I’ll happily take the title.

Then I got to thinking, why don’t I post about the new stuff I try? Who doesn’t want to know if gingerbread marshmallows are any good, or if caffeinated hot cocoa is any better than regular hot cocoa?

Starting soon, I’ll start posting about some of the new items I try. The good, the bad, and hopefully I won’t come across anything nasty, but chances are I will.

So look forward to new tasty posts in the future. Hopefully I can come across some good stuff to share.

Lily Eating An Apple

The other day we took Lily out on her first apple picking adventure.

The orchard we went to had lots of animals to see, pumpkins to check out and, of course, apples!

Walking out into the orchard was a bit troublesome for Lily as she doesn’t pick her feet up to far off the ground. So she was tripping over quite a few things. However, she didn’t care.

Once we were out amongst all the apple trees, Lily started to pick apples. She first wanted the ones on the ground, as they were at her level, but those were no good. So we picked her up and let her pick her own apple right from the tree.

Once she had it in her hand, she went to town on it. She ate nearly 1/2 the apple before we decided to take it away. She had apple juice all down the front of her and she thought it was the greatest thing ever.

We had so much fun that we are thinking of going to another orchard before the season is over. Possibly even going to a pick your own pumpkin patch this year too.

I don't have a drinking problem.

Once Lily turned one, the transition was on from bottles to sippy cups and from formula to whole milk. It took a couple of weeks, but she’s successfully transitioned.

The biggest thing to remember is to go slow. We fist started introducing sippy cups instead of bottles before we started transitioning milk.

We’d give Lily one for a snack every now and then so that she’d get use to sippy cups. She also got water or juice in them so, by the time we wanted to transition to milk, the cup wasn’t too big of an issue.

The biggest thing with sippy cups is that every cup is different. Some cups Lily likes, some she’s not so fond of. We have 6 different kinds of sippy cups and pretty much know now which ones she can drink out of easier than others. If we pick the wrong cup, Lily may not drink it at all, or not drink as much as we think she should. She is getting better about taking any cup though.

When transitioning milk, we started off by mixing formula in with the milk. Now the formula has to be liquid. Don’t try to mix powder into milk as that won’t work well.

We started with by mixing in 1/2 a cup for a few days, then 1/2 a bottle and so on. Increasing the amount of milk every few days and decreasing the amount of formula.

At first Lily didn’t like the milk, but it grew on her and after a couple of weeks, she had no issues with just milk. Now she just drinks it, no questions asked.

The transition from bottle to sippy cup and from formula to milk wasn’t that hard. It’s all about taking it slow and realizing that the first few encounters with milk probably won’t be the best, but eventually they learn to like it.

Other than that we had good food, cake and fun. Lily got to see some people she doesn’t see as often and she got to be the center of attention; which she loves.

Mom and I got her a few gifts but she wasn’t overloaded on presents. At least not yet. I’m sure more will be coming in the upcoming weeks.

Lily also got to eat her birthday cake and make a mess. We all had fun with that one. Well until about 10pm when she wouldn’t go to sleep because of all the sugar. We decided then that she’ll never get frosting again.

Even though Lily’s birthday is technically over, I’m sure there will be more celebrating to come as not everyone was able to make it. That’s good though as we can share the love and extend the party!

We stopped at Mocha Monkey, our local coffee shop, and I got a strawberry banana smoothie. Unfortunately it wasn’t  that good today, but I offered up some to Lily and she like it.

She was able to suck it up through the straw which she hadn’t done before. In the past when we’ve tried to get her to drink via a straw, she either thought it was a toy or tried to eat it.

It’s a small accomplishment, but we’re excited.

Granted there are still a few things for her to learn, like how to hold the camera steady, but the movie director, and star, in her is already shining through.

You never know, there may already be a sequel in the works.

We’re wondering if it was too much yogurt, or a bad one maybe? Still, teething might have been a part of it as she seems a bit more moody lately too.

Either way, going back to jarred food and ensuring she eats stuff we know works well with her system, seems to have made things better.

I’ve been a dad for less than a year but one thing I’ve learned is babies put everything in their mouths.

This is what our day is like.

Hey, dad’s watching that. Lets not put the remote in our mouth and change the channel as we eat it.

Dad’s cell phone is not for eating either.

Yes, the iPod is pretty, but it doesn’t need slobber on the inside.

Cat hair is not something you need to pull out of the cat and put in your mouth.

Your shoes looked better on your feet than in your mouth.

I swear I put your socks on your feet, not in your mouth, this morning.

Hey, dad needs those glasses to see clearly. Please stop eating them.

I’d let you eat that bill if they didn’t just double charge us next month, plus late fees.

Hey, you can’t eat that paper either.

Hey, stop eating my wrist pad. Do you want dad to get carpal tunnel? No you can’t pound on the keyboard either. At least not while the computers on.

From what I can tell it’s true and they make some pretty big claims that make me wonder if I’m a bad parent by not giving it Lily.

From the Bacon Baby website:

By the age of 4 months, our test subject started to exhibit some amazing abilities including walking and talking.

By 6 months of age, she could read and memorize her early stage children’s books and showed an extreme level of coordination and balance – so much so that she was enrolled in gymnastics and ballet with children 5 years older than she was!

At two years old, she read her first 300 page book, memorized the Declaration of Independence and (this is absolutely true) began composing her first symphony.

Riiiiight. Something tells me this isn’t typical results.

Note that we can’t guarantee that your baby will become smarter or more athletic from using this formula, as those particular claims are still undergoing review by the FDA – but we think you’ll be pleased!

But what if it’s true? What if bacon flavored formula is the answer to creating a new race of super humans? What if I don’t get my baby this formula?

Then it gets even worse.

Currently, we are only allowing people to get on a waiting list for a very small run of this product, and the product will be sent out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

It looks like I’m to late! I didn’t jump on the opportunity when I had a chance now my baby will never be super bacon smart like the other kids.

Does this mean I’m a bad parent?

We’re doomed. We’re all doomed.

Hopefully your baby got in on the Bacon Baby Infant Formula so they’ll be super smart.
