My cat has the same problem. He uses plastic bowls for years with no problems, until a couple of months ago. I didn't know what it was at first. We had a visit with the vet who gave him a shot and some antibiotics. I switched his bowls to the metal kind and put peroxide on his chin twice a day. It's been about 3 weeks now and only a little bit of improvement. He still has what looks like blackheads around his lips and a couple of pustules develop here and there. Looks like he may need to go back to the vet for a check-up. Don't know what else to do.

great! thanks for the tips! I ended up changing her bowls to ceramic ones about 2 weeks ago when everything I found online was saying plastic bowls are bad! then I put a little peroxide on her chin about once a day, I used a cotton ball and rubbed real good in one direction away from her mouth. I was surprised to see the black specs coming off onto the cotton ball, a little more each day. Then finally a couple days ago I got it all off and it looks so much better! I just hope it never comes back! I'm going to keep up with washing her bowls everyday though...before it was like once a week.

Rebecca~

Changing the bowls did help. We also talked to our vet about it the next time we were in and here's what they said to do; wash his chin with soap and then rinse it off. You are supposed to do this every day. Ours seemed to go away after a while when we changed to metal dishes so we didn't end up doing this but that was what our vet reccomended.

My cat is having the same problem! Did changing the bowls and applying hydrogen peroxide help?
