Stephenie Meyer- Twilight Series

Filed under: General — Christi at 6:12 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2008

A few months ago I was told by a co-worker that the Twilight series was a very addicting series.  I thought about getting it but it had a long waiting list at the library and I didn’t want to buy it if I wasn’t going to like it.  Then at Christmas my husband gave me the first book in the series.  After the first couple of chapters I couldn’t put the book down.  The next day I told my husband that we had to go buy the second and third book.  By the end of Christmas week I had read all of the three books.  I loved the story and can’t wait until the fourth book comes out and the movie comes out.  I have always loved reading but these books really sucked me in.  I think it was a combination of the romance, action, supernatural and more parts of the story.  It had a little of everything in there and if you ever get the chance I would HIGHLY recommend these books to anyone!  I will probably end up reading all of them again before the fourth book comes out in the fall.

Changing your Job-What’s the fastest way to find a new job?

Filed under: General,Non-Profit — Christi at 9:29 pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2007

So on Monday I decided that it was time to change my job (problems at my current employer).  Therefore I gave my notice on Monday for two weeks.  I had been working at a Non-Profit as a Financial Reporting Manager.  Normally when I have done this before I have always found a job before giving my notice but this time I wasn’t able to do that.  I am working with a recruiter from Robert Half and I’m searching on Career Builder and Monster.  Does any one have any other ideas as to ways to find a job.  I’m definitely not desperate for a new job as I am planning on not starting at least until January 3rd but I just want to cover all my bases!  Any advice I would appreciate!

Controversial Golden Compass

Filed under: General,Movies-Good/Bad — Christi at 8:53 pm on Wednesday, November 7, 2007

So I just recently got sent a link to a Snopes editorial about a new movie coming out.  Usually I don’t care one way or another but I thought this was interesting so I thought I would write about this.  Its called the Golden Compass.  It has Nicole Kidman in it and it comes out in December.  According to the email and according to Snopes this movie is a book made into a movie which was written by an atheist whose desire is to wipe God out of kids beliefs.  This is book is part of a series in which the last book has a girl and boy portraying Adam and Eve and they kill God.  I would say this movie should stir up quite a bit of controversy.  I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to believe what they want but I don’t believe views should be pushed on people.  Hopefully this isn’t what this movie is trying to do.  Any thoughts?

Fall Activities in Minnesota

Filed under: General — Christi at 8:27 pm on Thursday, September 13, 2007

It is Fall again and that means changing leaf colors, cooler temperatures, and for most people staying indoors more often.  For me I’m always looking for something new and interesting to try, indoors or outdoors.  Last weekend we went to Deardorff Orchards just outside of Waconia, MN and picked apples.  It was alot of fun and they have many different kinds of apples there.  We tried many and ended up getting Honeycrisp apples, although we want to go back later when Honey Gold apples are ready to be picked.  Now I just need apple recipes, anyone have any good ones?

Another good fall activity I think would be to go horse riding and enjoy the changing leaf colors.  I can’t seem to find any places in the southwestern metro for beginners to go horse riding though.  Any ideas?

Another one that we have done before is going to the Severs Corn Maize.  It’s huge!!  We went right after I got off crutches and so I didn’t make it all the way through before my ankle bothered me.  Its impressive they can come up with these designs though.  Its a little pricey but its got a neat idea behind it and has things for all ages.

What are some of your favorite fall activities?  We are always looking for new things to do!

Tragedy on 35W Minneapolis MN

Filed under: General — Christi at 4:51 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2007

By now I’m sure most of you have heard about the tragedy on 35W in Minneapolis Minnesota. The bridge carrying hundreds of people collapsed. No one knows why at this point but it did falling into the Mississippi River. So far only four have been officially proclaimed dead but many were injured. I’m reaching out those of you who would be so kind and asking for prayers. I found out this morning that an ex-coworker of mine and her family were on that bridge. Her two daughters, one who just graduated and one who is supposed to graduate this next year, and her husband have injuries to their vertebrae but will be released probably tomorrow with back braces. My coworker though sustained head injuries and spinal cord injuries. She had to have brain surgery to reduce the swelling and is now in a medically induced coma. She is in the ICU and is in critical condition and therefore I ask all who will please pray that she will be alright along with anyone else who has loved ones who were in this tragedy. Thank you all!

Traveling with Pets

Filed under: All about Cats,General — Christi at 6:04 pm on Sunday, July 15, 2007

Its summertime and what do allot of us do during the summer, travel! Which means if you have a pet you have to decide whether to leave them at home during that time, board them, or take them along. Well I don’t know about you but my cats would be scared to death if I boarded them. If its for a long trip I usually ask friends and family to take care of them. Some time though, like if you have a dog, you want to take them with you. I have found a site that will make that easier for you. Lets say you are traveling more than a day and you need to find a motel that will let you keep you pets there this site will do it. All you do is put in where you are starting and where your ending destination is and it will tell you the pet friendly establishments along the way. I think this is a great idea it would make my life one step simpler if I was traveling with animals.

Update-Broken Ankle-1 Year later

Filed under: General,Health Related — Christi at 8:12 pm on Thursday, June 14, 2007

So its been about a 1 year (and a month) since I completely broke my ankle (broke every bone and dislocated it) and I’m proud to say my ankle is basically healed. I have scars on both sides of my ankle and it still swells bigger than my non-broken ankle but overall I can do everything again that I could do before I broke it. In fact I have started running at the Gym and it holds up well. Every so often my ankle will tell me if I’ve done too much by causing some pain or if the weather is changing. I still have all of the metal in my ankle as I figure that I’m going to at least enjoy the summer before deciding if I want to get the metal removed or not. Any of you out there who have broken an ankle before do you still have the metal or not? Is it as simple a procedure as the doctor says to remove it? Do I have to go back on crutches at all?

Harry Potter Theme Park

Filed under: General — Christi at 6:12 pm on Thursday, May 31, 2007

I don’t know how many of you people out there are fond of the Harry Potter books but I know that I am.  I started with the movies (later than most people) and got addicted from there.  I now have finished the 6th book Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince.  Now I can’t wait until the 7th book comes out and the 5th movie:)!  Today though I read online that they are creating a Harry Potter Theme Park.  I think that would be cool to see where they go with the story line.  I’m not sure if its going to be amazing or if it will wreck the authenticity of the books.  These books remind me of Lord of Rings which I’m a huge fan of also and its great the way they are getting kids back into reading but now a theme park, I’m just not sure.  We have to capitalize where ever we can I suppose.  What do you think?

Spring Thaw and what it uncovers

Filed under: General — Christi at 4:59 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

My husband and I went for a walk around the lake in town this weekend in our wonderfully warm temperatures and I noticed something really sad.  All over in the water and along the edge of the water was litter, pop cans, bottles, paper, etc.  Then when I was driving home today I noticed the same in ditches there was litter everywhere.  It looks horrible and sad that this is happening.  Why would someone throw this out their car window (I’m assuming that is where it had to come from since we live out a ways in the country suburbs)?  Why would people throw things in the lake?  Save it until you get home and throw it in your own garbage, its really not that hard.  I’m not a person who spouts off about things like this often but think of it besides it looking terrible now what is it doing to nature and what is it going to do in the long run?

TRIA Orthopedic-Surgery on the wrong leg

Filed under: General,Health Related — Christi at 6:32 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007

So I’m sure you’ve heard the stories about people going in for surgery and the surgeon operated on the wrong body part.  I know I had but I always thought it was one of those tall tails that didn’t happen very often until today.  My co-worker’s mom went into surgery yesterday for a repair to her ACL.  The doctor signed the leg that he was supposed to do surgery on and then left the nurses to prep her mom.  During that time some of the nurses went on lunch break and others took over.  During the middle of this somehow the nurses ended up prepping the wrong leg.  The surgeon started performing surgery on the wrong leg and got in and couldn’t find anything wrong with the ACL but stated sometime the ACL starts to repair and therefore kept scraping the tendon away trying to find the problem.  He finally realized that they were on the wrong leg too late and then had to replace that tendon because of all the damage caused while in there.  He then called my co-workers father and told him what happened and asked if he wanted the surgeon to still fix the bad leg (the leg he was supposed to fix in the first place).  They decided they might as well go ahead and fix it.  She now has had both tendons replaced even though only one was supposed to be fixed.

I can’t even begin to imagine especially if the surgeon had signed the leg that he was supposed to do surgery on how you mess up like that.  Sad to say, as I’m not a suing kind of person, but this is a lawsuit waiting to happen and this is why our health insurance premiums are so high.  We all make mistakes believe me I make mistakes in my job time and again its just doctors have a higher risk when they make mistakes.
