Apple Stores-Discrimination Against Women

Filed under: General — Christi at 8:47 pm on Wednesday, August 23, 2006

My co-worker informed me the other day of something that astounded me. She informed me that she hates going to Apple stores (loves the products but hates the stores). I asked her why that was and she told me it was because she feels they discriminate against women. So I asked her to explain herself.

Just the other day she went into the Apple Store in Southdale Mall in Edina, MN to buy a radio/speaker set for her iPod. She had tried one before and it made her iPod music too radio sounding. Therefore she decided that she would go to an actual Apple store where she could ask what was causing this and what set they would recommend. She was willing to spend whatever amount on it to find a good one.

She went in one evening, there were 4 males working and no one else in the store. She was not greeted but went on her way to look. She found the area that she was looking for and wasn’t sure which to get and so looked over at a clerk for assistance. They ignored her. So she just decided on one and figured she would ask about it when she went to check out, figuring they would have to give her service then. But instead when she tried to ask her question they just replied that it will happen on all systems and just told her to pick one. She finished her purchase and left.

After that I asked her if this was the only time and the only store this had happened at. To which she replied this had happened at both the Mall of America Store and Southdale store on several different occasions. The only time she had actually received service was when she went to the Mall of America store and her friend was working. Of course then she received lots of attention.

I have never been in an Apple store without my husband so I don’t if what she is saying would happen to everyone but its happened enough times to my co-worker to raise a voice or a concern. It is terribly if this is what is truly happening at the Apple stores to twenty-some aged women.

Karaoke Revolution

Filed under: General — Christi at 11:48 am on Sunday, August 13, 2006

A few months ago we bought Karaoke Revolution for my brother in law for his birthday.  Then after I broke my leg we went out and bought Karaoke Revolution Party version.  It is so much fun.  It has 50 songs that you can chose from (some have to be won) and several different characters.  You chose what your characters look like and what they where.  Then you chose where you want to sing.  Then its time to sing.  Sometimes if you really don’t know the song or if you just can’t match tone you get booed off the stage.  But the goal is to earn either a gold, platinum or diamond record.  Then when you do you unlock secret items.  With this version if you have a dance pad for dance dance revolution you can dance and sing at the same time.  We enjoyed ourselves so much that we also went out and bought Karaoke Revolution Country version and the Karaoke Revolution that we had bought originally for my brother in law.  We are also looking forward to when Karaoke Revolution American idol comes out as that should be interesting and fun.  If you enjoy singing or just enjoy getting a group of friends together and having a good time I would definitely recommend it.  It helped me enjoy time when I couldn’t be out enjoying the summer:)!

Wedding Planner-Organize and plan in Minnesota

Filed under: General — Christi at 5:38 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2006

When I got married I planned and had everything organized down to the last detail.  I had excel sheets organizing the guest lists and gift lists, I had contact lists and itinerarys.  I had everything planned out and done a couple months before the wedding.  Everyone kept saying how I should become a wedding planner and I never gave it much thought.  Course that was until my sister’s wedding then came up a year later.  Then I helped her get that planned and organized up here in Minnesota since she was living in St Louis at that time.  I thought that would then be the end of that once again but then my friend decided to get married labor day weekend and now it seems I’m helping with most of her plans.  I never knew how organized a person needs to been when you get married and plan a wedding until I have been part of the wedding process in 3 completely different weddings.  Hey if need any advice or recommendations on vendors to use I have now assisted on a wedding in Rochester, MN, LaCrescent/LaCrosse area and the twin cities area.

So as I posted a while ago I broke my ankle on May 20th and it has been a slow recovery but here’s the good news, in a week and a half I lose the boot for good!  Thank goodness too as I have a wedding to be in on Labor Day weekend.  I’m praying that I can walk normal by that weekend but we will have to see.  Therapy has been going well on my ankle so that’s good but you never know what its going to be like until you walk on it.
