Spring Thaw and what it uncovers

Filed under: General — Christi at 4:59 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

My husband and I went for a walk around the lake in town this weekend in our wonderfully warm temperatures and I noticed something really sad.  All over in the water and along the edge of the water was litter, pop cans, bottles, paper, etc.  Then when I was driving home today I noticed the same in ditches there was litter everywhere.  It looks horrible and sad that this is happening.  Why would someone throw this out their car window (I’m assuming that is where it had to come from since we live out a ways in the country suburbs)?  Why would people throw things in the lake?  Save it until you get home and throw it in your own garbage, its really not that hard.  I’m not a person who spouts off about things like this often but think of it besides it looking terrible now what is it doing to nature and what is it going to do in the long run?

TRIA Orthopedic-Surgery on the wrong leg

Filed under: General, Health Related — Christi at 6:32 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007

So I’m sure you’ve heard the stories about people going in for surgery and the surgeon operated on the wrong body part.  I know I had but I always thought it was one of those tall tails that didn’t happen very often until today.  My co-worker’s mom went into surgery yesterday for a repair to her ACL.  The doctor signed the leg that he was supposed to do surgery on and then left the nurses to prep her mom.  During that time some of the nurses went on lunch break and others took over.  During the middle of this somehow the nurses ended up prepping the wrong leg.  The surgeon started performing surgery on the wrong leg and got in and couldn’t find anything wrong with the ACL but stated sometime the ACL starts to repair and therefore kept scraping the tendon away trying to find the problem.  He finally realized that they were on the wrong leg too late and then had to replace that tendon because of all the damage caused while in there.  He then called my co-workers father and told him what happened and asked if he wanted the surgeon to still fix the bad leg (the leg he was supposed to fix in the first place).  They decided they might as well go ahead and fix it.  She now has had both tendons replaced even though only one was supposed to be fixed.

I can’t even begin to imagine especially if the surgeon had signed the leg that he was supposed to do surgery on how you mess up like that.  Sad to say, as I’m not a suing kind of person, but this is a lawsuit waiting to happen and this is why our health insurance premiums are so high.  We all make mistakes believe me I make mistakes in my job time and again its just doctors have a higher risk when they make mistakes.

Choice Auto Rental

Filed under: General — Christi at 6:51 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2007

When my car got rear ended the other day I didn’t really know which car rental place to go with.  My husband asked at the collision place and they highly recommended Choice Car Rental.  I guess it didn’t thoroughly matter I just wanted to be done talking to people about my car and the accident.  I called them up and they made me feel completely comfortable.  I have to say that if everything goes as smooth as the phone call I will be completely glad that I went with them.  First they are dealing directly with the insurance company so that I don’t have to worry about anything.  Second they are coming to my work place or home if I prefer so that I can fill out all the paperwork.  Third they have guaranteed that they will have a car at the Collision place on Monday before I arrive.  Talk about service I was very impressed.  Hopefully it will all go as discussed.  My car goes into the shop Monday Morning! Here’s hoping for as good as new car!

Why Paint Cats-Cruelty or not?

Filed under: All about Cats — Christi at 6:09 pm on Sunday, February 18, 2007

I got an email the other day that contained pictures of cats that had been painted.  When I say painted I don’t mean on a canvas no instead the fur of the cats had been painted with different colors.  To me this just seems strange and cruel as who would do something like that to their cats…. Don’t cats have enough color on their fur?  I’m curious why people would do this to their cats?  I know my cats and I have a feeling they would spend the rest of the day licking the paint off of their fur.  Which then makes you think wouldn’t that be bad for them to ingest?  What do you think?

Here’s some picture examples:

Car Accident-Rearended whose at fault?

Filed under: General — Christi at 9:48 pm on Tuesday, February 13, 2007

So on Monday morning as I was sitting at a light two blocks from my house and all of a sudden my car was rear-ended not once but twice. I got out of the car and a lady nice as can be gets out totally flustered as was I and said she didn’t know what happened that it was her son’s Jeep and she had never driven it before today. My lucky day huh?!? As I’m looking at the damage to my car (bumper shattered, trunk indented, etc) thinking what a wonderful way to start a Monday morning. Apparently she had big boots on and hit both the brake and the gas at the same time. She then slammed into my car which pushed my car forward and hers backwards and then still couldn’t get the brake and hit my car again within seconds. She of course didn’t have her insurance information with her. Luckily for me she truly was a good person and did call me later.

I figured it would be her insurance company and her record that this accident would go on but since she was driving her son’s Jeep this doesn’t affect her. Instead it goes against her son and his insurance. I think something is wrong with that picture that she does something stupid and he has to pay for it. Plus then why do they tell you to always carry an insurance card on you if it doesn’t matter about your insurance it just matters that the car is insured. Then it poses the question say you were really mad at someone and borrowed their car and totaled it, do you get off completely free since it wasn’t your car and so not your insurance? Just questions that have crossed my mind.

I still don’t have a car as they now have estimated I have $4,000 worth of damage and so the adjuster has to come and agree before they will give me a rental car. Good thing my husband likes to carpool:)!

Wii-Interative fun for all ages

Filed under: General — Christi at 10:57 am on Sunday, January 14, 2007

So we finally got a Wii on Thursday of this week and we have been addictive ever since.  It comes with the games Wii sports which includes Golf, Boxing, Baseball, Bowling, and Tennis and I’m not a big sports buff but I thought I would try it out and much to my surprise it was a ton of fun.  You hold the Wii remote like you would a bat or a golf club and swing it just like you would if you were playing a real game.  You can get really into these games and get a good workout from them.  I think this was the smartest thing Nintendo could do in this day and age where all the kids are getting obese from sitting around and playing video games.  Instead now they actually have to move around.  I think this could grab people of all age ranges because its very easy to use and its a ton of fun.

I-Cat & Sims 2-Pets

Filed under: General — Christi at 5:51 pm on Friday, January 5, 2007

I got some great Christmas presents this year.  Two of them I didn’t really know how exactly I would like them but they are turning out pretty cool.  I got an I-Cat.  This is a little mechanical cat that you can hook your MP3 player up to it and it will be speakers for it.  It also does a light/dance show in time with the music.  If you don’t want to have your ipod playing it will just act like a cat asking for attention with lights, meowing, purring when you pet its face etc.  Its cool, as I was never really sure what it did but thought it looked cool.

Next I got the Sims 2 Pets in Game Cube which I’m completely and utterly addicted to.  The only problem is I’ve needed to revive my cats and dogs a couple of times…. I guess I’m a bad pet owner or something.  I think in that game you can only have 2 pets otherwise its just too many.  Any tips/cheats or fellow users I would love to hear from you.  Its fun because you get to lead your normal Sims life but you get to have pets which are good/bad just like in real life.  When they pee on the floor thats not good.  The one good thing is that they show you want they want in little bubbles, like when they want to have puppies or kittens they show a stork carrying a baby.  Anyways like I said I’m completely addicted and would recommend both gifts to anyone!

Cats & Christmas Tree Deterrents

Filed under: All about Cats — Christi at 7:54 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2006

Well its happened… last weekend we went away and came back and hmmm our Christmas tree had tipped over.  We have never had this happen even though our small cat, Sassy loves to climb the tree and sleep in it.  Last year we tried a boundary spray and we thought that it worked but after having to do it twice a day and it does not smell pretty let me tell you, it was not the best.  Especially because it would only deter our cats for about 15 minutes.  Any ideas from you cat owners out there about ways to keep our cats away from the tree?  Right now we use water but that only works until you get presents and then you don’t want to drench them.  We’ve tried foil that did nothing.  Any ideas I would greatly appreciate!!!

Where’s the snow?

Filed under: General — Christi at 7:48 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2006

Well I live in Minnesota and I am one of the few that actually look forward to it snowing.  Now mind you I don’t look forward to the driving in snow but it doesn’t feel like my birthday or Christmas until it actually snows.  So where is it?  They say its going to be 40 degrees here in the cities…. well since apparently I’m not going to get snow for my birthday (which is next week) let’s at least hope for some for Christmas!!!

Christmas Wishes-Target, Wal-Mart, Macys

Filed under: General — Christi at 6:36 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2006

Last year Target, Wal-Mart and Macys all decided they were not going to wish anyone Merry Christmas or have Christmas trees. Instead they decided they were were Holiday trees and were going to wish everyone Happy Holidays. My husband thought it was pretty ridiculous because Christmas Trees are Christmas Trees and they can’t just decide to change the name because it might offend someone. My personal opinion is I can understand a store like that saying Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas because there is all different religious holidays that happens in December besides Christmas that most stores don’t sell anything for or think of because the majority of the population is Christian. I wouldn’t be offended if someone told me Happy Hanukkah! But I can see people of the Jewish (or other) faith becoming tired of everyone just focusing on Christmas. What do you think?
