I’ve had my iPad for a few weeks now and I’m always surfing though the App Store to see what’s new and, better yet, what’s free.
Here are 10 great apps I’ve found for the iPad so far that are worth checking out.
Simplenote
Forget Apple’s Notes application, Simplenote is a note pad that will sync your iPad to the web, to your computer and to your iPhone. It is simple, free and syncs. What more can you ask for?
AccuWeather
With big beautiful images, AccuWeather is one of those apps you just have to show your friends. The weather never looked so good.
Speeding Up WordPress Starts With Plugin Developers
I’ve recently been looking at Google’s speed test tool and working to increase the speed of some of the sites I interact with daily. Where as there are things that we, as blog owners, can control, a lot of speeding up WordPress falls in the hands of plugin developers.
Here is what WordPress plugins developers can do to help us all out:
1. Set the Height and Width of Images
I know this is an easy one not to do, and it’s one of the most common issues that Google reported, but it’s so easy. Please set the height and width of all images in your plugin.

It’s time for dad to step up to the plate and use all that parenting knowledge he’s been soaking up.
You see, daycare’s closed today. That means I get to spend all day just hanging out with Lily.
But that also means I get all feedings, changing and everything else.
I’ve spent a ton of time with my daughter, just not the two of us alone for 8 hours or more. I’m totally Mr. Mom today.
I’m not worried though. Lily is a good baby and we’ll play, eat, laugh, spit-up and poop. It’ll be great. This is what memories are made of. 
I guess daylight savings time does screw up babies.
When I first heard that daylight savings time screwed up babies sleep schedule I was a bit skeptical. I agree that a time chance can cause a problem, but didn’t think it’d be that big of deal. That was until we tried to put Lily to bed.
In Lily’s mind, it was 7, not 8 and she wasn’t ready by any means.
Sure, our day wasn’t out of the ordinary. She didn’t get up late, her feedings weren’t changed due to the time, but yet she knew something was up.
When do babies sleep through the night?
I think all new parents want to know when their babies will sleep through the night. Our Lily does a pretty good job some nights, and others not so much.
She’s gotten back into the waking up in the middle of the night to feed. This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when she’s eating all sorts of baby foods now.
People always told us that babies sleep though the night when:
- They are 5 months old.
- When they start eating baby food.
- When they learn the difference between night and day.

Gruml is a desktop feed reader application that is completely integrated with Google Reader. Unlike some other programs that claim to do the same, Gruml does more than just show you your feeds.

Get Weather Alerts via Twitter
Lets face it, some of us are on Twitter more than we are paying attention to most other forms of communication. We can tell you what was recently blogged, but we sometimes have no idea what’s going on outside our window with the weather. Wouldn’t it be nice to get them to come to you, via Twitter? Now you can.
I’ve used a combination of dlvr.it and Weather.gov weather alert feeds to post updates to Twitter. Now when a storm is coming, I can know!
Weather Alerts via Twitter for Twin Cities Metro Counties & Other Areas
Want to know when a snow storm is coming? How about when a thunderstorm watch has been posted? If you live in one of the seven Twin Cities metro counties, all you need to do is follow the Twitter account for your county and you’ll get alerted.
Hennepin County – Including Minneapolis
Ramsey County – Including St. Paul
Carver County
Scott County
Washington County
Anoka County
Dakota County
They are nicely broken out by county so that you can choose to only get alerts that matter to you, where you live, work or play.
SocialAddict Updated to v1.2
SocialAddict for Adobe Air, and for the web, has been updated to version 1.2.
Updates include:
- FriendFeed mobile replaces FriendFeed 2 Go.
- Pownce removed.
- Updated Adobe Air version.
- New installer thanks to the Badge Builder.
For those that don’t know, SocialAddict is an application that brings together the mobile version of multiple social networking sites for quick and easy access. It’s available for your desktop via Adobe Air or on the web.
