Backblaze continues to backup my computer.

BackBlazeIt’s been nearly three years since I signed up for Backblaze and it’s been backing up my computer ever since.

I have it set to back up once a day and it currently has backed up 112,452 files at 82,287 MB. That’s over 80 Gigs! All this for less than $5 a month.

Luckily I have never had a computer crash were I needed to get my files back. But, as my computer ages, it’s good to know that everything is safe.

Passwords and backups should be two of the most important features on your site.

Blog SecurityYour website may be amazing, but if it doesn’t have secure passwords, and it’s not being backed-up regularly, it could all disappear tomorrow.

People never realize how important those things are until someone compromises their stuff. Then what are you going to do?

I’ve heard two stories this week about two different developers who got all pissed off and their clients site suffered. Unfortunately neither company had changed passwords when they ended their relationship with the developers and neither had backups. Now they are left in a panic, and what’s left of their site.

Backblaze Lets You Forget About Backing Up – It’s That Easy

BackblazeI’ve been thinking about getting an online service to backup my computer for a while now, however most services made the plans confusing, didn’t have a Mac client, or had price levels that just made it more than I wanted to spend. However, I signed up for Backblaze and it’s been wonderful ever since. I no longer think about backing up, it just happens.

I know what a lot of Mac users are thinking, what about Time Machine? Well, as great as Time Machine is, if my house were to burn down, so would all my backups. An off site backup solution is the only way to ensure that my files are safe. Time Machine works well for local backups, but really isn’t the best solution overall and that’s why I looked into other options.

Why don’t iMacs have batteries?

iMac BatteryYes, I really asked that question. Why don’t iMacs have batteries?

The reason I ask is because things happen. Someone is building a building and cuts the power to a whole city block. Oops. Or a storm brews up and knocks down a tree and the lights go out. It happens, the power goes out and then my iMac goes dead. So why don’t desktop computers have batteries?

Now, I’m not asking for much. Just a small battery that lasts maybe 10-30 minutes. Giving the user just enough time to save everything and shut down the computer safely. I’d think there would be enough room for a mini battery inside my iMac.

Backup Your Blog Today

Blog Backup DayIf you didn’t know, today is Blog Backup Day. The 13th of every month is the one day that you should take a few minutes and backup your blog posts in case something bad happens. What if the database server decides to crash tomorrow? Then what?!

I started Blog Backup Day in hopes to encourage other blog authors to save their data. You never know when a hosting error or hacker will pop up. There is nothing worse for a blogger than realizing that your past year (or more) worth of blog posts are simply gone.
