Do people like Instragram for the photos or for the social network?

Cat on a ChairInstagram is one of those applications that has made it big but it kind of makes you wonder why. All it does is take a picture, put a filter on it and share it. It’s not a camera, it’s not a photo editor, all it does is put filters on photos. But it’s worth a billion dollars!

The more I think about it, the more I don’t quite get it. First off, it’s not even a full size picture, it’s cropped to be square. Then you put a filter on that screws with the color or the quality.  What you’re left with is something that’s kind of cool and I’m not sure why.

Turn your iPad or iPhone into a weather radio.

noaa weather radio hd iconI’ve been looking to get a new weather radio and I found a really good, and cheap, one that happens to be an iOS app.

NOAA Weather Radio is an iPhone and iPad app that lets you listen to over 160 weather radio stations from all around the country and even a few in Canada.

The app also has current weather conditions, radar and forecast.

If you setup your location, it’ll alert you via push notifications when there are severe alerts in your area. Just like a normal weather radio, it’ll make the weather radio warning sound too.

My iPad has a sound issue much like the iPhone antenna issue.

Remember when people were complaining that the iPhone 4 had reception issues? Of course you do, it wasn’t that long ago.

Well it turns out, that if you put your finger over the antenna, then the signal strength dropped.

Guess what? The iPad has the same design flaw, only with sound!

You see, I was playing music on my iPad while surfing the internet the other day when my sound quality dropped. I couldn’t belive it. My seriously cool iPad sounded like crap.

Turns out, that if you put your hand over the speaker, then the sound quality drops.

Clean Out Your iPod With Song Ratings

One Star Rating

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got thousands of songs on your iPod. Some songs are great while others you’re not quite sure why they are on there. No one has the time to sit down and go through them all, so why not mark all the songs you no longer want with one star, and then delete them later?

My iPad, iPhone, iPod Dilemma

iPadPodPhoneSo I have a dilemma, but it’s a good one to have.

You see, my wife rocks. She likes to get me sweet presents. This year she was going to get me an iPad, but thought she’d ask me if I really wanted one first. Which I do, kind of.

The iPad is that new shinny Apple toy that every Apple fan wants. So of course I want one! But, the downside here is that my wife would then take my iPod Touch. Which this is a problem as an iPad is portable, but not like my touch. It’s not going to look good mounted on the dashboard of my car and it won’t fit in my pocket. So I’m thinking no on an iPad.

12 reasons why every parent needs an iPhone.

iPhoneThere are tons of things that parents buy before having a baby. However, an iPhone may be the most fun & important. Why? Because of these features:

  • The Digital Camera – You’re going to be taking an insane amount of pictures, especially if it’s your first baby, so having a camera handy is a necessity.
  • The Photo App – You’ll need to show off all those pictures right? Well the iPhone can showcase thousands of photos for showing grandparents and friends.
  • The Internet – Going to the store isn’t always quick and simple with a baby, but hopping online and ordering anything at anytime is.

Why Do Twitter Apps On The iPhone Rock, But Are Lacking On the Desktop?

What is it about Twitter apps that are fantastic on the iPhone and lacking on the desktop? Tweetie, Twitterrific and Echofon all rock on the iPhone, but when it comes to the desktop version, they’re all lacking in the latest and greatest Twitter features.

TwitterrificLets start with Twitterrific, if you’ve used it, you know that it doesn’t even have a re-tweet option. I’m not talking about the new fancy one either, I’m talking about just re-posting someone elses tweet with an re: in the front of it. It hasn’t been updated in years and lacks many features. It’d also be nice to separate into tabs DMs, RTs, and have an area for search.

iPhone Apps Coming To Your Desktop?

Could iPhone apps be coming to the desktop? No really.

The biggest features on the iPhone are the touch screen and the accelerometers. For years now, all Apple laptops have a touch pad, which works in the same way. They all have a motion sensor built it too, but I’m not sure if it’s as good as the accelerometer though.

Plus Apple recently released the Magic Mouse which is also touch sensitive just like the touch pads on laptops and the iPhone screen. So could this all be leading up to iPhone apps on the desktop?

WCCO News Comes To The iPhone In Style

It has always amazed me how news stations can spend thousands on new sets, fancy graphics and anything to get more viewers on TV, but their website usually suck.

Getting the local news on an iPhone or iPod Touch meant loading an overly busy, and usually slow, website or a very basic, and usually ugly, mobile version.

Now however, WCCO, the local CBS station, has come out with an iPhone application that is beautiful! See for yourself.

Tis the Season to be Joll-E

While browsing around Amazon the other day, I saw a great WALL-E ad that featured Wall-E in a Santa hat with some Christmas lights.  So I took a screen shot and made it iPhone/iPod Touch friendly, just for you. :)
