Is MacZot Getting Desperate?
I’ve been watching MacZot for quite a while now, but today, they solicited me.
I got an email via the contact form on my site. It said:
Just wanted to let you know about the great offer we have going on at www.maczot.com today. Pulp Motion is 33% off and they are selling like hot cakes. If you want your readers to have a chance to pick this amazingly fun app up at a discounted price, today is the day!
Now this seems weird as I have a MacZot account and they didn’t email me through the address hey have on file. So why are they filling out my contact form?
Free Shareware Mac Apps Catch
When I first wrote about MacAppADay, I wondered what the catch was. It didn’t take long to figure it out, however I still think it’s a brilliant idea.
So what’s the catch? Temporary licenses. The applications are free and you are free to use them, with all features, as long as you don’t upgrade. Some apps say you get free upgrades until the next major update. IE: 2.0-2.x but not 3.0. But then again, that’s pretty much normal. Others say you don’t get any updates. IE: “Please note that this license file is valid for version 2.0 of Overflow only. Version 2.1 will be a paid upgrade, should you choose to upgrade (you will not be forced to!).”
Free & Discounted Mac Apps
It all started with MacZot a few months ago. The idea was to give discounted, and sometimes free, applications to Mac users. Recently MacUpdate jumped on board with the daily special idea and now MacAppADay is next on the list.
MacAppADay is all about free apps and it sounds almost to good to be true. “Throughout December, each and every day, we’ll give away 5000 copies of a popular mac application. Even if all the apps were only worth $5.00, that’d be $150.00. And some of them are worth a lot more. Oh, and this is not a competition. Everyone gets every single application.” Now that’s a big promise for any site.
macZOT MyzteryZOT Letdown
When I was introduced to macZOT a few days ago, I was very excited. Seemed like a great site with an interesting twist. However, I realize now that MyzteryZOTs are not for me.
The deal was over $130 dollars in software for $15. What the software was, I didn’t know. It sounded like fun so I went for it.
Here is what I got:
- World of Where – Geography game that matches cities and state and other capitals world wide. Haven’t tried it but it doesn’t really appeal to me.
Get AppZapper Free!
A truly great offer! Ok so it’s PR, link bait, scheme or whatever you wanna call it but MacZOT asked for 259 bloggers to mention AppZapper in their blog, with a link to MacZOT.com, and then they’d discount the price of the application by 5 cents. If they got 259 posts, the application will be free! Up to 1000 copies that is.
An it worked; fast! In less than 24 hours (i believe) they had enough posts to give the software away. If you have a Mac, get over to macZOT and get your lifetime serial number! I got mine and I didn’t even get around to posting about it till now. ![]()
