Themepark News & Information from Minnesota
Valleyfair opens every day at 10am and closing time varies per day.
Check out the park hours image below for specific days and times.

Valleyfair.com is showing that the construction on Breakers Bay is wrapping up nicely. It also show where it’s located in the park. It is much closer to Wild Thing that I had previously thought.
If you’ve been by the Mall of America, you can’t miss Lego Land. It’s a wonderful playground full of Legos and fun. However, I don’t think it’s been cleaned since the day it was opened.
Sure, down low all is good. But the view from the second or third level shows dust caked on all the Legos. The colors appear faded due to the dirty conditions and it detracts from the mall landmark.
Now, I know it’s not easy to climb up and clean them all but you’d think that once every few years they could do something. Maybe they do. Maybe they just get dirty that fast!
Either way, Lego Land needs a bit more cleaning and attention paid to it. It’s a fantastic attraction and it should look as good as possible at all times.
Cedar Fair announced that Valleyfair is for sale!

I guess Cedar Fair wants to pay down it’s debts and that means putting Valleyfair up for the highest bidder. Granted, I’d love to own it, but I don’t think $100 would cover it.
However, even more disturbing news is that Cedar Fair is thinking of selling California’s Great America to the 49ers to use a a parking lot. A parking lot! Now that’s sad!
At this time Valleyfair will continue to operate as normal. If it does get sold, I wonder who’d it go to? Cedar Fair seems like such a good parent. To bad their purchase of Paramount Parks Inc. put them in so much debt.
The Mall of America has talked about expanding for years now. There was talks about a casino, hotel, entertainment / concert hall, Bass Pro Shop and so much more. Yet, nothing has happened. Good news is that the mall is still expanding, bad news is, not really anytime soon.
Instead of one giant addition, they are now thinking of a three phased approach. The first, 3 million square foot, phase could be done by 2013. The rest… maybe in our lifetime.
There are no details on store, or when construction may start, but at least they are sill thinking of expanding. However, with the economy the way it is, I wouldn’t be expect to see the expansion be delayed yet again. On the other hand, think of how many jobs it’d create!

New for 2009 is the Soak City water park!
Valleyfair is adding a 350,000-gallon wave pool, aka Breakers Bay, with 200 feet of beach! Imagine that, a nice beach in the Twin Cities! No diving allowed though as it only goes down 6ft at the deepest.
Soak City is about double the size of the previous Valleyfair water park and spans nearly seven acres.
Besides Breakers Bay wave pool, other new waterpark features include…
Panic Falls Body Slides (three tubular water slides with quick turns and sudden drops), Panic Falls Speed Slides (two large slides with a sudden, rapid drop), Hurricane Falls (a four-passenger raft ride) and Raging Rapids (a rough, whitewater tube ride). For milder thrills, the waterpark offers Ripple Rapids (a slow moving river), Splash Station and Giggle Run (attractions for small children).
Wow, that’s a lot of new water attractions! And to make it even sweeter, Soak City is included in your Valleyfair admission price!!! No additional costs!
Valleyfair should open in May along with the Soak City water park. Enjoy!

It’s taking over the old Sportsmart location and is well under way of development. Not sure on when the store will be open for business though.

A lightning strike over the weekend may have caused a slow burn in underground power lines. This then took out the power to a large chunk, half, of Valleyfair last night. Riders stuck on rollercoasters had to walk down the lift hill and other riders were helped out of rides also. No injuries were reported which is good an all Valleyfair visitors that had to leave the park due to the power outage can get a free evening pass.
Thrillify is a new blog covering news and events regarding Minnesota theme parks, the Mall of America and other amusement parks around the country. More details on what this site will be about are still being decided.
