Themepark News & Information from Minnesota
What use to be Camp Snoopy is now officially being renamed to Nickelodeon Universe!
This is the first announcement from the nations largest indoor theme park and many more will be on their way as they work towards the March 2008 completion date. A logo, character rides and overall theme park makeover is all on it’s way for the Mall of America.
During the transition period, the rides should not be shut down but some construction annoyances will probably come up.
Stay tuned for more information.
-G has recently taken a trip to Valleyfair and shot some nice Renegade photos along with quite a few other rides in the park.
Myself, I haven’t made it out to Valleyfair yet, but hopefully at the end of this month. ![]()
Check out -G’s Photos.
Tomorrow, May 12th, Valleyfair opens for the season. More exciting yet is that Renegade also opens for the first time ever!
Renegade boasts a never-before-experienced twisting first drop, a low-to-the-ground high speed S-turn and a high speed station fly-by. Renegade will stand 104 feet tall and will drop 91 feet. It will reach a top speed of 52mph. The $7.0 million coaster is designed by Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCII) of Sunbury, Pa. Renegade will be the Valleyfair’s eighth roller coaster and its second all-wooden roller coaster.
Good luck to all who get to go on opening weekend. Do share your experiences!!
The opening of Valleyfair for 2007 is just around the corner. On May 12 the park will be open from 10am – 6pm and starting May 17th, the park will be open daily.
For the full daily schedule, see the Valleyfair hours page.
Ohh and Whitewater Country Waterpark opens May 26!
Moose Mountain Adventure Golf is coming to the Mall of America later this summer. The 19 hole course will overlook the amusement park and construction is already under way.
The ironic part is it’s location. It’s located in the exact same spot as the mini golf course use to be in the mall. When the mall first opened mini golf was a part of it all. Then it was removed for Cereal Land from General Mills, then Dinosaur World and now it’s back to mini golf. Ok, so I think there may have been more than two attractions in that spot, but I’m not sure what they were. Either way, this space doesn’t hold attractions for long. However Moose Mountain Adventure Golf looks pretty nice!
It’ll open later in the summer, probably around August is my bet. Lets just hope they keep the pricing reasonable so that it can be a success!
Snoopy is out and SpongeBob is in. The amusement park in the Mall of America is officially getting overrun by Nickelodeon cartoons.
Over the next few months, the rides will be transformed into Nickelodeon themed rides. These include “Spongebob Squarepants,” “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius,” “My Life as a Teenage Robot” and “Rugrats.”
Better yet, new rides are on their way also. Including a possible 70-foot-tall free-fall tower tower and an upside down rollercoaster!! The coaster is set to be themed to “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
I was a big fan of Snoopy, but I think that Nickelodeon is an excellent choice to bring to the park. On my next visit to the mall, I’ll have to remember to take my camera!
Not to start a rumor, but the Mall of America does have a large underwater area that would be perfect for SpongeBob. By bringing in SpongeBob & Patrick and making admission to Underwater World free, it may be a great way to bring in more visitors. I know I’ve been to the mall many many times but never paid to see Underwater World.
What do you think?
SpongeBob Square Pants, Dora the Explorer, the Rugrats and many other Nickelodeon cartoons may just be coming to the Mall of America in Minnesota. The once Camp Snoopy has been looking for characters ever since Snoopy and his gang left. The word on the street is that the mall and Nickelodeon are in the final stages of talks!
So what will they call the new park?
As more and more boards get nailed on, Valleyfair’s new coaster, Renegade, is taking shape. See the view from the top of the coaster at the ThemeParkReview forums.
I took a trip past Valleyfair this weekend and you could see Renegade peeping over the trees. Unfortunately, you can’t see much more. It’s stuck in an area that isn’t viewable from the road so I don’t have any good pictures to share.
I snapped this shot as we zoomed past Valleyfair today. Disregard my wife’s hand. ![]()
You can see parts of Renegade rising above the trees in the background. In the foreground you see Excalibur.
We did plan on getting a better shot but didn’t drive back by on the way home.
