Out of the Cedar Fair family of amusement parks, Valleyfair’s income came in 4th in 2005 at $36 million.

The 2005 Income List:

  1. Cedar Point $210 million
  2. Knott’s Berry Farm $186 million
  3. Dorney Park $56 million
  4. Valleyfair $36 million
  5. Worlds of Fun $35 million
  6. Geauga Lake $26 million
  7. Michigan’s Adventure $19 million

Knott’s and Cedar Point brought in about 70% of income which is huge. The other parks need to bring in more visitors somehow to help increase their totals. I know that Valleyfair has been adding an exciting new ride about every other year so their total should continue to increase.

Figures from an article in the Toledo Blade.

Welcome to my new Theme Park News Site.  It’s main focus will probably be Minnesota based parks with news and information on Valleyfair, Camp Snoopy and maybe some waterparks.  I’ll be converting the old Valleyfair news posts into here and creating a nicer, hopefully more up-to-date, theme park news site.

Keep checking back in the upcoming weeks as I build the Theme Park News Site

It’s not yet determined why, but Valleyfair’s famous rollercoaster, Wild Thing, jumped it’s tracks over the weekend. It happened at the end of the ride and 18 people were said to be taken to the hospital. None had much more than bumps and scratches. There were no major injuries. It’s still up in the air on why it happened and Valleyfair will make sure to fully investigate it.

Wild Thing is Minnesota’s biggest and fastest amusement park ride and one of Valleyfair’s main attractions. Until recently, there had never been an accident with injuries in the rollercoaster’s 10 year history.

Wild Thing will be closed until further notice.

[Update] Wild this has reopened!

World-Class Thrill Ride Swings into Park for 2006

Xtreme Swing Ready to Launch on May 13

Call it a high-powered swing set; something you won’t find in your own backyard. New at Valleyfair in 2006 is Xtreme Swing, an air-launched thrill ride.

The $6 million attraction towers 100 feet tall and accommodates 40 passengers, who are seated back-to-back in two rows of 10 riders each on two giant swinging arms. Ride motion is that of a pendulum, suspended from an axle, swinging in an arc, back and forth – just like a child’s playground swing; except this ride takes you higher – up to 125 feet in the air and faster – up to 60 miles per hour.

“We’re excited to bring this thrilling, new attraction to Valleyfair,” states Larry MacKenzie, Valleyfair’s vice president and general manager. “It will bring back the kid in all of us.”

Xtreme Swing is designed by S & S Worldwide, Inc., based in Logan, Utah. S & S also designed Valleyfair’s popular ride – Power Tower.

Ride duration is about one minute and the ride capacity is 800 riders per hour. Guests must be 48 inches and taller to ride.

Construction for the ride was completed in December, and Santa Claus was the first official rider to take flight on December 19, 2005.

Animation of Xtreme Swing can be viewed by visiting valleyfair.com.

For more information, visit valleyfair.com or call 800-FUN-RIDE or 952-445-7600.

Valleyfair is owned and operated by Cedar Fair, L.P., a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN”. In addition to Valleyfair, Cedar Fair owns and operates six other amusement parks, five water parks and one indoor water park resort.
