iPod Help Needed – Music Stops

I’m in need of a bit of iPod help. I have posted my issue at MacOSX.com and Apple’s site with no answers.

I have a 20 gig iPod that does photos and music. It works great, however if I try to set it on the dock, and then use the line out in the back of the dock to my speakers, it’ll only play for about 90 seconds (or so) and then it’ll go silent. The iPod will still be playing, but the speakers won’t omit any sound.

Now I can live without my docks line out, but I got a Bose SoundDock for Christmas and it does the same thing. 🙁

I got my wife a Nano for her birthday and that seems to have no issues so it must be my iPod.

I’ve restored my iPod (complete erase) and it didn’t help. I also ran disk utility to see what that’d find and it found nothing. Any ideas? I’ll take it to the Apple store if necessary, but I’m afraid they’ll charge me to fix whatever this issue is.

Other than this one issue, I have no other iPod issues and I’m perfectly happy with it.

Ideas?

Seems like a Dock Connector issue in the iPod itself. You might want to try cleaning it out with some compressed air. If that doesn’t work, take to an Apple Store, because they are pretty good about giving you a free replacement even if the iPod is out of warranty (which im assuming your 20gig is)

  2. Thomas says:

If it’s a dock issue, then why does it have the same problem on a new Bose SoundDock? And it doesn’t have any issues with the iPod nano.

Sadly yes, the warranty is out of date. 🙁

I have a similar issue — sorta. I have 3G 20GB iPod and put in my Sonic Impact (portable iPod boombox) . It will only play sound now when running on the units battery and not when plugged in. It used to work fine. Weird. I have not tested one of the kids Nano’s or wife’s 5G iPod yet though.

  4. Thomas says:

    Sorry Kevin – I mis-read your comment yesterday. 🙂

  5. Justin says:

I have the same issue with my 8GB iPod Nano on my iHome media dock. NOt sure why, only the nano has a conflict, every other ipod works fine. Let me know if you figure something out, I think its the connector within the ipod; not the dock. If you lift the ipod out a bit, wiggle it a tad does it work?

  6. Thomas says:

Air!!! Kevin is a genius. I cleaned out the iPods dock port with compressed air and I’ve been jamming for about an hour. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hookup the iPod to iTunes then take the videos from your iTunes library and drop them on your iPod. Done.

I bought my daughter a new NANO recently… and I have very basic questions on charging it through the USB connection into my PC.

    1. does the PC need to be ‘on’ ? if so, then…

    2. does iTUNES need to be running ?

    Thanks so much…

  21. Thomas says:

nc – Yes, the PC needs to be on, no iTunes doesn’t need to be running. 🙂

I have an Apple I-Pod 80gb Video and for some reason I can charge it and add songs to it from itunes but when I plug it in to the iHome or even when I plug a headset into the headset jack it doesn’t play any music. On the screen it is counting down the song and everything like it should be playing but I hear nothing. Any ideas??

    Thank you!

  38. Darren says:

My Ipod does the same thing with Flo Rida “Low” I tried different versions. I Finally found one that plated the whole song. In limewire its the version that says “Flo Rida Low (dirty)”

  39. While I in the beginning left a comment in https://www.twistermc.com/1047/ipod-help-needed-music-stops I clicked the – Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time the latest feedback is added on iPod Help Needed – Music Stops – Blog on a Stick web page, I recieve a couple of emails with the identical feedback. Perhaps there is any way it is possible to eliminate me from that program? Thankyou!
