iPox for Firefox 3 – Beta

Now that Firefox 3 is out, I have a lot of themeing to do!

The first theme to be released for Firefox 3 will be iPox and I’m happy to announce the beta is out today.

The beta was born from the Mac default theme and has been built from the ground up.Β  This is all new code people. πŸ™‚

The beta has been working great on my iMac, but it’s not as pretty on Windows.Β  And Linux I have no idea.

One big change with Firefox 3 is that it ties into the system to create buttons, form elements and lots of things.Β  At this time, iPox has not overwritten most those items.Β  The Mac buttons look great in iPox, the Windows ones are so so.Β  I’m looking for your thoughts on those or just pointing out what isn’t working.

From my experience, iPox is looking mighty fine on Firefox 3 on a Mac.Β  But it’s all those things I don’t see that I need your help with.

If you see a bug or an issue, head over to the Bug Squasher and post it.Β  We can work together to get things figured out.

Once iPox is out of beta, the other themes will follow.Β  Some sooner than others, but none probably as fast as fans want them.

Remember, I am only one guy with a lot going on in life.Β  I don’t have as much time to theme as some may think. πŸ˜‰

So where do you get the latest iPox beta?Β  Over at the Bug Squasher!

iPox is no longer in beta, it has been released.

Keep up the good work! I almost didn’t want to upgrade to FF3 because iPox wouldn’t work.

    I’m waiting with 4 eyes,iPox is my indispensable…

Where can I download the Beta?

  4. Thomas says:

Tom, the link to the Bug Squasher is in the post above and the download is linked in there.

After installing it on FF 3 on Windows XP my whole FF window was transparent :-S After some ‘wild guess clicking’ I was able to find the menus and restore the default theme. Strange, uh?

  6. Jesse Xiong says:

it’s transparent so I can’t see things clearly, can you improve it?

  7. Thomas says:

I have tested it on XP and never saw transparency. Not sure what happened there.

  8. Bitfreak says:

@Jesse: actually I can only see my desktop, the FF window is completely transparent. I can’t see anything of FF at all. After some random clicking I was able to see the texts of the menus and change back to the default theme. I’ll try to make some screenshots.

    hi

    thx for the theme,looks n1 πŸ˜‰

better than the shitty default theme πŸ˜€

    ipox ftw πŸ˜€

p.s. sry 4 my bad english

    so long

    Screenshots are at http://www.bitfreak.net/ipox/
Another strange thing: right-clicking at FF in the taskbar does not show the context menu (previous format, minimize, close etc). Maybe ipox interferes with one of my addons?
When the transparent window thing happens I can only reach the menus by pressing and moving around with the arrow keys: I can’t click on any menu item.

  11. Bitfreak says:

In my previous comment the Alt-key disappeard (due to HTML filtering): When the transparent window thing happens I can only reach the menus by pressing Alt and moving around with the arrow keys: I can’t click on any menu item.

  12. Guido says:

In Windows vista it’s OK but in Windows XP FF windows is transparent
    πŸ™

    Good job anyway

I just tried the beta…Some advises if you mind πŸ™‚

-Favicon background is too dark, some dark favicons disappear…
-Content menu text are just too big
-All in One Sidebar background can be white as in your ff2 iPox…

    Of course it’s just a beta,but i just post my opions πŸ˜‰

BTW, borders when you click an input area is a great idea…

Keep up working and thanks for your effort…

hm, well I’m running xp but I didn’t have a transparency problem at all. I couldn’t really tell you if the bookmarks toolbar is too dark, because the main issue for me is that there are no favicons. however, forecastfox text is transparent, spare the icons. my only other beef is that the navbar icons are too small.

otherwise, great progress, and keep up the great work! =] can’t wait til the final version is out, I check every day.

  15. Thomas says:

If we could post bugs in the Bug Squasher that’d help me get details and followup with possible solutions.

  16. Thomas says:

Any chance those with transparent issues installed iPox under Firefox 2? I may not have changed the minimum requirements.

  17. Bitfreak says:

@Thomas: please check my reply in the Bug Squasher.

  18. Bitfreak says:

@Thomas: under FF 2 I was using the previous version of iPox, it was being disabled when I upgraded FF to version 3.

  19. Bitfreak says:

BTW: On OS X it’s working as a charm, very nice!

  20. Thomas says:

An updated iPox beta is out and it hopefully fixes XP transparent issues: https://www.twistermc.com/blog/bug-tracker

  21. Bitfreak says:

@Thomas Bummer… the transparency issue is still there…

  22. Bitfreak says:

Forget my previous post, it’s been a long day…….. iPox works perfectly now πŸ˜€ Tnx!

  23. Liz says:

    Hi there,

I had my friend install FF3 and she is insisting that I get her back to FF2 so she can have her browser pink again. Any estimate on when you will have Pink Hope updated for FF3, or should I go ahead and give in because it might be a while? πŸ˜‰

    Liz

  24. Juliooo says:

Thanx for the update, its looking great and I am sure it will get better.
My only suggestion or request is that you make it work with fission.
I just cant live without that little bar…

  25. Hmm, very strange these tidings be.
I don’t know if this is old news or no, but I seem to read in these posts (Haven’t been to Bugtracker to read the posts there) that XP users are getting not but a transparent FF window.
Now, unless between the time those were posted and the time I installed iPox 3 ( πŸ˜‰ ) there were certain mods made in the code, but my XP machine sees Firefox rather well. No transparencies whatsoever. And again, iPox is as brilliant as ever. It may take a while for me to get used to the wide blue bars that make up my first three toolbars, but seeing as I like blue, I won’t think too much about it. Excellent worj as always! No where is MidnightFox… ?

  26. Thomas says:

    Hi Steven

    Transparency Fixed.

MidnightFox beta in a week or so. Hopefully.

  27. Mena says:

I like theme, but it have bugs in Windows Vista

    1 – The progress bar isn’t working

2 – The font used in the theme is not Segoe UI

3 – Highlighted buttons text is white you can’t see it

I hope you enhance the down status bar.

    Hello,

I love the extension Ipox, I just installed firefox 3 and I installed Beta Ipox and as you ask I do share my comments.

    — It would be good if the search box “google” is better integrated with the theme because it just spoils the harmony of the theme.

    — It would be nice also that it is the choice to choose between the grey and blue for the toolbar google.

Here are the main points I have raised but I’m already very satisfied with the work done. Bravo to you

Just to see the final version will be released when?

    Thanks in advance
