Accelerated Mobile Pages are simple to setup in WordPress.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (or AMP) are the latest way in which Google and others are trying to make the web faster. Turns out, the more features you add to a site, the slower it gets. Since no-one wants to simplify their website, AMP pages were born. They’re a stripped down version of your website that loads instantly.

It’s simple to set up accelerated mobile pages in WordPress. So simple, that you can have AMP pages in less than 5 minutes.

  1. Install the AMP WordPress plugin.
  2. Activate it.
  3. Done

Once the plugin is activated your WordPress site is now AMP enabled. That’s it. Well, sort of.

At this point, you have everything for valid AMP pages, however, AMP pages are a new theme and include none of your plugins. That means there’s no analytics, no ads, nothing but your content. That’s awesome for visitors, but you’ll probably want analytics.

If you want to customize the layout a little, then you’ll need another plugin.

The AMP for WP plugin works alongside the AMP one installed above, but this one allows you to customize you AMP theme. You can add Google Analytics, add your logo, add a menu, and control some other features. I highly recommend it.

Between those two plugins, you’ll have everything you need for a basic AMP site.
