InLine Spell Check for Firefox

It’s true, there is support for inline spell check in Firefox!

When I upgraded Firefox yesterday my SpellBound didn’t work so I did a little searching and found the developers preview of SpellBound. Not only did it work in Firefox 1.5.0.1 but it came with a new feature; inline spell check!

Now, just like Thunderbird, when you type in a text box, misspelt words underline in red. The only downside is that you can’t right click and get suggestions but I’m sure they are working on it. Either way, this is fantastic!

Nuts. It looks like the stuff is installed, but it’s not finding any misspelled words, either in-line or in the check boxes…

What’s your setup? Mac? PC? Intel?

Thanks for writing about this, I was really bummed when SpellBound wouldn’t work with my FF version. I found the dev preview through this entry of yours 🙂

  5. nope – I have the latest version of OS X, Firefox, and the developer version of SpellBound – but it just doesn’t work. Errors are not identified even in the test area of the SpellBound preferences box. What to do?

I never did “activate” a dictionary? Is that necessary? I cannot see where to do that … I’ve installed several.

First off, you must be on a PPC machine. It doesn’t work on Intel.

Second, go to Tools -> Extensions and then right click on SpellBound and choose preferences. Make sure everything looks good and spell check as you type is turned on.

You can also right click on any text box and choose ‘Check Spelling’. If there are any issues with dictionaries, it should warn you.
