Dashboard vs. Konfabulator

Dashboard vs. Konfabulator: Much discussion has gone across the internet in the past few days and someone has finally wrote an article comparing the two. Daring Fireball put them head to head and pointed out a few good points. Like the fact that Apple experimented with this technology years ago! Granted the success of Konfabulator may have started Apple’s design team to start the widgets back up, but it looks like the idea has always been there. And the best thing I’ve heard today is that Dashboard gets designed with HTML and CSS using the same rendering engine as Safari and programmed with JavaScript! That’s great since it opens up the possibilities to CSS2, DOM2, JS, HTML, XMLHttpRequest, Flash, QuickTime, Java, and more. You really don’t need to learn a whole new language to build a widget just use the same web programming language that you know today!

Tiger Theme

Tiger Theme: Less than a day later and BlackDog has come out with a 10.4 Tiger theme for ShapeShifter! It’s currently in progress but it’s looking pretty sweet! Also, that blue apple menu is so cool. [All Links Removed as they are gone.]

Rich Text

Rich Text: Why don’t people tell me when things are broken? My Rich Text Editor has been broken for a while now, not a lot but you couldn’t upload images, and no one told me! Oh well. It’s fixed now.

SpyMac Mini Review

SpyMac Mini Review: Well I opened an account over at SpyMac.com so I could get the free iCal hosing and I’ll have to say SpyMac is a different sort of place. First off, they have a nice design and a boat load of features. However, it’s slow and there are no instructions for any of the features. No help, no faq, no instructions. You’re just supposed to post in the forums and ask for help. Then, 10 hours later, and if your lucky, someone will answer your questions. I now have my iCal hosting up and running and I wouldn’t have been able to ever guess how to do it on my own. SpyMac has a lot of features, but you need instructions to figure out everything. Instructions that don’t exist.

10.4 Tiger

10.4 Tiger: Apple previewed 10.4 Tiger today and it looks pretty sweet. It’s got a few cool new features like a much advanced search and automator, a new program to help you automate the redundant tasks you do every day. It also comes with one controversial feature, Dashboard. Some claim it’s a rip off of Konfabulator, a widget application for OSX. Even if it is, it still looks pretty cool!

Earthquake

Earthquake: It’s been reported that an earthquake hit the Midwest this morning! The 4.5 magnitude quake rattled windows and woke sleeping residents from Wisconsin south to Missouri and from Indiana west to Iowa. - KSTP

I wonder what that means? Is there a possibility that more is coming? What would happen if it did? It’s scary to think about since we don’t usually get them. Oddly enough Christi and I were talking about the possibility over the weekend. Creepy!

Tiger

Tiger: MacOSX Tiger gets officially announced today! Apple will preview the upgraded OS this afternoon. All us Mac geeks will be watching for details.

New Cell Phone

New Cell Phone: We got new cell phones today. Same number just upgraded phones. Ours now have color screens and a camera. Among other features.

iSkin

iSkin: I got a new iSkin in the mail yesterday for my iPod. For some reason I got the exact same color green so it doesn’t look any different. In the day light that is. At night however, it glows in the dark! I don’t know why I didn’t pick a different color than green but it’s to late now. Still pretty cool!

Forces of Nature

Forces of Nature: We went and saw the Forces of Nature at the Minnesota Science Museum yesterday afternoon and it was pretty good. It was an IMAX movie so it felt like you were there! We saw volcanoes, earthquakes and tornados. Lots of fun!
