So I just discovered Skype. I’ve known about it for a while, I just never tired it before. Yesterday, fueled by the anger towards Qwest, my co-worker and I checked it out. Skype is a phone service that is free for you to call other Skype users over your computer. You use your built in mic and speakers to communicate or you can get a headset at the store which should make it much better. Our test lasted a half hour or so and we had quite a bit of fun. Not only can you chat back and forth you can also send files, instant message and conference call.

What’s so great is that you can call anyone using Skype for free. Skype to Skype calls can be placed across town, across country or across the world. Now I have to find a friend in the UK to try this with. 😉

Another cool feature is that Skype can call any phone number. Skype to phone costs about 2 cents per minute and goes up in special situations. Check their website for more information.

I have yet to do a lot of calling with Skype but it is a fun technology and the quality was excellent!
