MacBook Battery Saving Tips?

Thomas' Blogging MachineAs I sit here at SES in San Jose with my MacBook Pro, battery power is one thing I’m keeping an eye on. I did some research before coming on how to save batter power, but I’m looking for more tips.

Here’s what I have so far:

  • Turn down the screen brightness as far as it can go and still be usable.
  • Turn off BlueTooth
  • Turn off Airport when not in use.
  • Turn off any applications not in use.
  • Turn Quicksliver to only re-index every day, not hour.
  • Optimize the energy saver preferences.

What other thoughts do you have to share? How can I get my MacBook Pro to last all day without plugging in?

I wouldn’t much help, as my laptop is a PC clone.
But I empathize with your dilemma.
My laptop has a AMD Dual Core.
It chews up batteries and spits ’em out.
I have, at most, an hour and a half of battery life.
If I have Firefox and all my messengers open, I have maybe, 45 minutes.
The best think I can think of is carry a spare battery or two.

What I found out was that the biggest thing, for me, was turning off Airport. When that was off, my battery lasted much longer. Screen brightness didn’t seem to make much difference which I thought it would.

Great advice. I dont know how many times I have to tell people the very same things. Glad I’m not the only one.
