If you’ve got a WordPress site, then you have spam. It’s auto generated and hits everyone.
A free and easy way to block most of that spam is to get the Jetpack plugin and enable comments.
Jetpack will then take over your comments. It’s like using a third-party service where the service is WordPress. When the page loads, it’ll load the comments box after your page is done, and it’ll be loaded in a way that makes it inaccessible to most spam bots.
When I enabled comments in Jetpack I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. I now get about 20 spam comments over a few days instead of 50+ a day.
I also run Askimet, so that helps too, but just enabling Jetpack can drastically reduce the amount of spam you get.
Not only that, but Jetpack comes with many other fantastic features and it’s all free.
Oh and did I mention that Jetpack is an Automattic product? So you know it’s good.
