Spam. The ongoing battle.

The one downside to WordPress I’ve found so far is the spam issue. Whether it’s in the comments or now in the trackbacks. However, this is a small price to pay for WordPress and there are workarounds. I think I’ve stopped the comment spam by adding the ‘preview’ button to the comments. This involves a second step before posting comments and I haven’t gotten one bot spam in over 24 hours which makes me happy. Now they are targeting trackbacks. Today I had my first trackback spams and there were about 100 or more. Hopefully this won’t continue but we’ll see. I don’t have a workaround at the moment either but I am watching closely.

I guess most of my spam is my own fault. I submit my blog to every place that I can and I make sure the feed is out there for the world to find. It’s just visible to so many places that the spam bots can find it easier also. Hopefully in the future versions of WordPress they’ll work out these issues but only time will tell. Like I said, a small price to pay for a great blogging system.

I added a new anti-spam checkbox on the comment preview page. Hopefully this will help.
