What does Minnesota need? More theme parks! Sony is planning a 300,000 square feet indoor theme park and water park on 18 acres in Albertville.
The $115 million dollar project is supposed to open in 2017 and will complement the Albertville outlet mall. Think Wisconsin Dells resort and the Mall of America all in Albertville. Or so the rumors say.
The entertainment center alone will have 50,000 square feet of space and the indoor waterpark will be just as big.
It’ll be Hollywood-themed so think Smurfs, Ghostbusters, Men In Black, and Spider-Man just to name a few.
It’ll also include a 275 room Marriott Hotel which is needed up there as there is plenty of shopping with no place to stay.
They have some major road work to do too as it’s already a mess up there when it gets busy. I hope that’s in the plan.
There are few details at this time, but some are already comparing it to Disneyland or Universal Studios. I highly doubt it’ll be that cool to start, but you never know.
There is more speculation than anything at this time, but if it’s to open in 2017, they better get moving.
