Mozilla Firefox and Flock extension for accessing Yahoo Site Explorer.

Weekend Update: Firefox 3, TV, Software and More

I thought I’d write a random post with some of what’s on my mind this weekend.

  • I’m now running Firefox 3 betas thanks to MultiFireFox.
  • MidnightFox was updated the other day with incorrect buttons.  Oops.  That has been re-uploaded and should be made public soon.
  • yExplore and GA? have been updated for Firefox 3. Actually, for the beats not the official release.  That’ll happen when the final release comes out.
  • Now that I am running Firefox 3, I can start theming it.
  • Just started to watch Entourage.  It seems like a pretty cool show.

yExplore 1.6 Fixes Bug

yExplore Firefox ExtensionIf you use yExplore, you may have noticed that it’s stopped working properly lately. This is due to a change made by Yahoo Site Explorer. The good news is it’s been fixed!

yExplore 1.6.1 has been updated and released!

The new version updates the domain URL structure to work correctly with the updated Yahoo Site Explorer. It also adds in support for newer versions of Flock and adds Netscape 9.0 support.

Enjoy!

Firefox - Innovations for Better Surfing T-Shirt

Last night I arrived home to a package. Inside was my official Firefox developers t-shirt.

I remember logging into my developer account at Mozilla and getting a note saying that I qualified for a free t-shirt since I had created an extension (yExplore) for Firefox 2. Fast forward a few months and here it is.

Even though it’s a chilly 2 degrees out, I think I’ll wear it anyway.

Thanks Firefox team!!

Getting Extensions to Work with Firefox 2

Firefox IconFirefox 2 is now in release candidate 2 so people are giving a whirl left and right. Even I’ve tried it but I’ll save my mini-review for later.

One issue that people have is that their extensions don’t work. Then they complain to the Firefox team which does no good. What you really need to do is contact the extension developers. It’s up to them to update their extensions, not the Firefox team.

For those that can’t wait for a developer to update their extension, you can do a few tricks to update Firefox extensions yourself. It’s not to hard and works great for those extensions that you can’t live without your favorite extensions.

Here is a quick preview of what’s new:
yExplore 1.5 for Firefox & Flock

yExplore for Flock

Flock LogoyExplore has been updated to work with Flock.

Now if you are on the cutting edge, like I am :), and are running Flock as your primary browser, you can install and run yExplore with no issues.

You can get yExplore for Firefox or Flock at Mozilla’s Add-ons site.

yExplore Adds Firefox 2 & 3 Support

yExplore has been updated to version 1.2 adding support for Firefox 2 and Firefox 3.

Since it’s a basic extension, and doesn’t tie into much that will change a lot, I thought it was safe to add the additional support. It has been tested by a friend in the latest version of Firefox so now everyone can enjoy it. :)

Next up, Flock & Seamonkey support!

yExplore Updated for Better Results

It took much longer than expected to get approved by Mozilla, the approval line must be really long, but yExplore 1.1beta is now out!

yExplore 1.1beta changes the URL structure that access’ Yahoo Site Explorer. It’ll now give you the most accurate data right away. The change is is in response to my odd Yahoo Site Explorer findings.

I think I also screwed up the the version numbers. This is version 1.1beta when there was no official version 1.0. It probably should have been 1.0beta2. Oops. So I’m guessing that the next version will be 1.2 maybe?? My Bad. ;)

Yahoo Site Explorer Lies

I’m not sure for how long, but I run a bunch of sites though Yahoo Site Explorer each month to track inlinks and indexed pages and this month my numbers were way off from previous months.

It seems, that by default, Yahoo Site Explorer is setup to count inlinks from all URLs (including the one I’m checking) and only links to the homepage.

You must click on the InLinks link and switch it to count all inlinks except those from the domain you’re checking and tell it count inlinks to the entire site.

TwisterMc Themes, Plugins, Extensions and Requirements

I’ve been adding quite a bit of software to my site in the past weeks. There is now two Wordpress plugins, two Firefox themes and a Firefox extension. However, one complaint I see is that it doesn’t work for version x.

My Firefox addons were built to work in today’s official build. Not the 1.0.x builds from months ago or the new beta/alpha builds of the upcoming browser. The reason for this is that I have the current official build and not the old or new ones. Without the other versions of the browsers, I can’t test my themes or extension. However, you can.
