Spice up Adium with iPhone Backgrounds

Did you know that iPhone backgrounds make great backgrounds for chat windows in Adium?  See for yourself.

iPhone Background on Adium

It’s really simple to do too.  Here’s how.

1 - Grab a cool iPhone background.  Here is the blue iPhone background I’m using.

2 - Open Adium and go to the preferences and click on the messages area.

3 - See that area for a custom background?  Check the box and drag and drop your iPhone background in there.

There are a few things to keep in mind.

8 Things That Baffle Me About My iPod Touch

I’ve been an iPod Touch owner since Christmas and I’ve been very happy.  However, there are still a few things that I just don’t quite get.  Maybe someone can help explain.

  1. Coverflow - It’s a really sweet feature, but the album art seems to only match the song that was playing when Coverflow as activated.  It doesn’t seem to update when the song changes.  Why not?
  2. Google Search - Google has a great iPhone friendly versions of Google Search, yet Safari’s built in search doesn’t use it on my iPod.  It sends you to the regular Google Search results instead, which are hard to read.

Socialthing! Sidebar for Firefox

Introducing the iPhone Socialthing! sidebar for Firefox. It’s simply an extension that loads the iPhone version of Socialthing! in Firefox’s sidebar. All features are controlled by Socialthing!, I’m just brining it into Firefox.

Download the iPhone Socialthing! Sidebar extension. (right click, save links as)

Socialthing! Sidebar FirefoxHow it works.
1. Download the extension to your desktop. Then go to Tools -> Add-ons and drag ist.xpi to your add-ons window. It’ll install and you’ll have to restart Firefox.

2. Log into Socialthing.com via your main Firefox window. Doing this before hand will make things a lot easier. If you log in through the sidebar, it won’t redirect properly. (Socialthing! developers, please fix this.)

MidnightFox Theme and Facebook Sidebar Extension Downloads Fixed

If you tried to download the iPhone Facebook sidebar extension or the latest MidnightFox theme beta, you may have noticed the button didn’t properly install the files. Instead it threw some odd error. This is an issue that effects mostly Windows users.

I’ve since been made aware of the issue and included a link to download the theme and extension file directly. Once downloaded, just open your addon’s window in Firefox, drag and drop them in and they should install.

Sorry about the confusion and thanks to those who brought it to my attention.

iPod Touch $20 Upgrade Rocks

I admit that paying $20 for a software update to my iPod Touch, less than a month after I got it, is kind of depressing, but I went for it and it’s like I have an all new iPod!

New features include:

  1. Email client. Fully functional email that’s amazing.
  2. Weather app. I love the weather, so this is like candy to me.
  3. Notes. I’ve been using address book for taking notes, not so much anymore. I wish I could do check boxes though too.
  4. Stocks - Not my cup of tea, but I got it.

Blogging on the iPod Touch

What better way to blog than on the go! With the Mobileadmin plugin for Wordpress you can do just that.

The plugin re-works Wordpress’ admin area to fit in with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Actually, this post has been written on my iPod Touch. *Well, up until this point.

iPod Touch BloggingSure blogging on the iPod Touch/iPhone is cool, it takes a bit longer to write a post and the WYSIWYG controls are not available. However, with the Mobileadmin plugin, it makes easier to do and it works remarkably well.

It’s a must have for any blogger on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Use iPhone Applications in Firefox’s Sidebar

With the release of the iPhone, many software companies are releasing iPhone versions of their applications. Even though you might not have an iPhone, there is still a chance that you can use them with Firefox’s sidebar.

iPhone Firefox Sidebar

Firefox’s sidebar is and odd place to load a web page, however if you manage your bookmarks, there will be an option to load any bookmark in your sidebar. The good news is that some iPhone applications can load and work in Firefox’s sidebar!

iPhone Overload - Please Shut Up

Ratatouille vs iPhoneOk, I’m a big Apple fan and I think the iPhone is pretty cool, but the amount of attention it has been getting the past week is overwhelming. People are going crazy over things like cancellation policies. Who cares about that? I’m all for good iPhone information, but the amount of information flooding the web is getting to be a bit much.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have $500 to just drop on a phone, but don’t you think we are going just a wee bit overboard? I agree that it’s cool, and I’d never turn one down if someone offered it to me, but it’s getting to be to much.

Apple iPhone/PDA/iPod - Wow

The announcement today of the Apple iPhone is amazing. The little device that can do phone, music, videos, tv and so much more blows me away. All this with no buttons, just a touch screen. It’s basically like a Mac Nano. It’s almost perfect. The main, and killer, downside is that it’s Cingular only. I’m not switching to them anytime soon and I really wish they could have partnered with Verison or a few cell companies.
