Me & WordPress vs Google Page Speed & YSlow

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. It seems that I can’t stop tweaking my WordPress install & settings.

I’ve done some major re-working of things on the back-end and I’m hoping I didn’t break anything. If I did, please tell me!

The bulk of my changes are to help with my site speed addiction. Ever since Google announced tools to help webmasters find ways of speeding up their sites, I’ve been hooked. I check the graph in Google Webmaster Central all the time in hopes of seeing sharp declines.

Does Webkit have a bug or are Mac programmers missing a step?

Webkit LogoApple’s Webkit is being built into all sort of Mac applications, however they all seem to share data and I don’t feel they should.

As an example, if you log into your Google account in Safari, Shiira is also logged in. And it doesn’t stop there. GCal, CSSEdit and Journler all use webkit too so you are automatically logged into your Google account.

This isn’t just a Google thing either. Works with Yahoo mail, WordPress blogs and any site that has a checkbox for “remember me.”

Jeeves Back at Ask!

I’ve stumbled across exclusive pictures of Jeeves the butler back at Ask! Is his retirement over?

Jeeves Back at Ask

I guess the man has been interviewing around as I also spotted him at Yahoo!

Jeeves Working at Yahoo

Checking out Google, I found that they interviewed Jeeves but have gone with Mr. T. That’s right, only the best results fool!

Mr. T Working at Google

By now, you may feel my exclusive pictures are, um, fake. Well, not everyone is happy to see Jeeves go. So, with a little bit of code, you can add Jeeves back into Ask.com. Or add Jeeves to Yahoo, Mr. T to MSN, Sponge Bob to Google or a banana to Ask. Whatever you’d like.

Lycos Mail Mini-Review

lycos-ssHosted on Zooomr

Well Lycos is the newest contender in the competition to win over your email business. So, jumping on the bandwagon, I gave Lycos Mail ago. Overall, it’s nice, but lacking.

The interface looks really nice. It has a good color scheme and an up-to-date graphics. However, the graphical ads kill it. It tarnishes the nice look and feel horribly. However, if you block ads, I guess you could get past that. You could also pay for email and then the ads would be removed too.

Yahoo Answers Rocks!

Yahoo Answers

I wasn’t to interested when I read about Yahoo Answers launching, but after trying it, I’m very impressed.

Not only is Yahoo Answers easy to use, it also gives very good answers and the turn around is anywhere from a few minutes to a day. I’ve asked two questions, one on cats and one on Windows, and both had excellent outcomes. Each question was answered and my questions were solved.

Here is a quick preview of what’s new:

Yahoo Messenger Mac 3 Beta 1 Review

Incase you missed it, Yahoo released beta version 1 of their Yahoo Messenger 3 for the Mac. Overall, it’s an excellent leap forward.

Now, most reviews you might read about Yahoo Messenger Mac 3.0 Beta 1 will end up saying that Adium rocks and is superior in most ways. Were as I can’t deny that, I can stick to reviewing just Yahoo Messenger.

The old messenger was just that, old. It looked like it was built in the 90′s and it was simply lacking in most ways. The new messenger however brings style and usability back.

Watch Out Firefox – Flock Rocks

When I discovered the other day that Flock has been updated, and was now a Universal Mac application, I decided to check it out. I thought Flock was cool back in the day, but now it rocks!

I love my Firefox, but I’m constantly checking out new browsers to see what they have to offer. Now, some people say Flock is Firefox and ductape, but I almost prefer Flock to Firefox!

Why?

  1. Flock has a very polished look and feel. Firefox isn’t bad, but Flock is great.

yExplore Updated for Better Results

It took much longer than expected to get approved by Mozilla, the approval line must be really long, but yExplore 1.1beta is now out!

yExplore 1.1beta changes the URL structure that access’ Yahoo Site Explorer. It’ll now give you the most accurate data right away. The change is is in response to my odd Yahoo Site Explorer findings.

I think I also screwed up the the version numbers. This is version 1.1beta when there was no official version 1.0. It probably should have been 1.0beta2. Oops. So I’m guessing that the next version will be 1.2 maybe?? My Bad. ;)
